Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 Trotz is crying his ass off on the Channel 4 press conference right now, saying that Homer should have been penalized on Nick's goal and that the goal should have counted in the 1st for Nashville.
J-Swift 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 nope, I watched the entire game. yes, he was solid except for those dumb actions and he deserves credit for what he's done through the rest of the game. the point is - he cost the Wings 2 dumb goals. on a team with potent offense like Wings this fortunately didn't end up with a loss. but if Dom played such game for a team with weak offense or against a team which is more skilled and tougher mentally... we'd be going to foreign barn with series tied 1-1 this is 2 goals. in a tight action in a series against Sharks or Ducks (if we advance and play any of those) that game would end up with a loss if Hasek lets such 2 goals in. and that's my point. seriously... ppl were all over Legace when he let a weak goal against Oilers (if my memory serves me well - in game 6 back in 2006). and that was only 1 bad goal. why should it be different with Dom? he blows - let's call it by the name. You don't like Hasek. We get it. You're being absolutely ridiculous. The only reason the Wings came out of the first with a lead was because of Dom. This game could've been completely different. And to compare Hasek's performance today to Legace's in '06 (even though I defended Manny back then) is absurd.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 Trotz can feel his team was jobbed, but he's not doing his team any favors by going on about it in the press conference. It's just giving them an excuse rather than demanding they play better hockey. Trotz is a good coach, but I don't think this is a wise strategy on his part. I'm listening to see his presser on 1270 right now, and he's whining like a little *****. I seriously can't believe that he thinks the Wings second goal should have been called off. What a loser! betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 This had to be a deflating loss for Nashville. They looked really frustrated late in the game. Agreed. I think we just saw Nashville's Sunday best for the first half of that game, and still they couldn't even come out with a tie score let alone a lead. And I think now they know it. Now we have to worry about the Preds getting a boost from going back home, but they just gave the Wings all they could in the first period and couldn't get a puck past Dom. And they got the lucky bounces in the second and still they couldn't get the scoreboard their way.
Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted April 12, 2008 I was one of them. Wow!. I'm guessing DekeNShoot will now be known as RunNHide. And he just joined (I looked at his profile - nothing about thickness listed there). Alas, chalk it up to not quite understanding forum interaction. I mean, come on. What kind of guy thinks that approach will actually pay off (even if I was a girl)? Any way, it will live on in my sig! Go Wings! Don't let Nashville use any energy in their arena - Destroy them in game 3 and it is over!
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 This team really showed me something by coming back after that *awful* 'penalty' on Dom those two quick goals. This looks like a team that really wants it.
Cruiser008 37 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 Great game; Detroit weathered the 1st period storm, found a way to re-group (Babcock showed why he's an elite coach and Trotz could do nothing about his teams lack of focus in the 3rd) after the Preds scored twice in 16 second and won going away. Now they just need to find a way to come back home up 3-1, 'cause we haven't won a short series in 5 years.
Argo 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 That's how it should work - Hasek bailing out the team when needed and the team scoring enough to bail out Hasek's bad bounces

Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 I find TSN's description of the game a little annoying. "The Detroit Red Wings got some breaks and made some, too. Kris Draper's tiebreaking goal went off an opponent, Nick Lidstrom scored when one of his teammates could've been called for a penalty and Detroit beat the Nashville Predators 4-2 Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in their first-round series." Don't give the Wings any credit or anything.
RedWingsFanatic 4 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 Trotz can feel his team was jobbed, but he's not doing his team any favors by going on about it in the press conference. It's just giving them an excuse rather than demanding they play better hockey. Trotz is a good coach, but I don't think this is a wise strategy on his part. Yeah, I completely agree. We can't lose sight of the fact that Nashville really has had stuff to complain about. Their whining isn't unfounded, just not necessarily the best avenue to take out frustration. Anyway, a 2-0 series lead is very, very nice. Anybody who says Hasek wasn't sensational today needs their eyes checked, because he's probably the reason we won. That first period was magic, and he was extremely solid the rest of the way. I don't see how you can blame him on either one of the goals. Place your blame on the boards and Andreas Lilja. I think I've said it about 259 times already, but seeing Darren McCarty score a pivotal playoff goal for the Detroit Red Wings was miraculous. I was downright giddy and out of control. I really get the sense that this city, and this state, is rallying around this hockey team, and he's a major reason why. I really hope he can keep this up. Other than that, a lot of the same stuff we've been saying all year. Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Holmstrom...all great. Babcock coached this game very well, too. That's important to recognize. So it's on to Nashville for 3 and 4. It should be very fun.

akustyk 84 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 You don't like Hasek. We get it. You're being absolutely ridiculous. The only reason the Wings came out of the first with a lead was because of Dom. This game could've been completely different. nope. I do like Hasek but I simply am not blinded by the fact that Wings won and see how he continues to journey outside the crease where he's by far not the best performer. he's done it a number of times before and was caught red handed another good number of times letting a goal which should never have happened. and it looks like he simply doesn't learn from this. yes, I am seriously concerned that he does it again in a tighter series against a team that will limit Wings offense and prevent our forwards from bailing Hasek from unnecessary goal against. sure, I'm exaggerating about his play and his overall grade after this game is really OK because he did wonders except for those 3 stupid actions. especially stellar was the save against Zidlicky (I think it was Zidlicky - in 3rd period, just a minute before Datsyuk rallied on Ellis on the other side). but I really, really feel uneasy about Hasek going outside his goal. this is his weak point and opposing teams know it perfectly. Preds made him pay for this today but we were fortunate to win it anyway. one day it may cost us an important game. And to compare Hasek's performance today to Legace's in '06 (even though I defended Manny back then) is absurd. honestly, I think you read something different than what I wrote. I never mentioned anything about performance. or if you want to drag it further - about skill, talent, etc. I mentioned Legace as an example of goalie who lets a weak goal in a tight game where his play is crucial for win. whatever.... call me a Hasek hater or whatever you wish. if that makes you feel better.... It's just giving them an excuse rather than demanding they play better hockey. Trotz is a good coach, but I don't think this is a wise strategy on his part. I know...talk about taking the responsibility off of your team...instead of talking about what should have been, he should be calling out some of his players to work a little bit--no, a lot--harder, starting with his captain. He shouldn't be taking his team off the hook here. PS. Homer didn't even hinder Ellis' movements at all, and we all know if he had it would have been called (with Homer's tracker record and such) Edited April 12, 2008 by umredwing11

I seriously can't believe that he thinks the Wings second goal should have been called off. What a loser! TSN's buying into it too. Lidstrom gave Detroit a two-goal lead in the opening minute of the second period when Tomas Holmstrom appeared to have a skate in the crease and could've been called for goaltender interference. Hmm. Even if he did have a skate in the crease, that's not grounds to call off a goal anymore. What is this, 1999? Sheesh. If he wasn't interfering with Ellis (just annoying him), there's no calling off the goal. They're actually calling it RIGHT for a change when it comes to Homer. TSN even had the idiocy to caption one of their photos "Arena worker takes the octopus off the ice." That's Al Sobotka, you morons. Show some respect.
