YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 (edited) This is the AP release. Its all over ESPN, SportingNews, NHL.com. Basically if we win the cup, we will have cheated now. Edited April 12, 2008 by YoungGuns1340
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 (edited) Okay some people in here need to stop reaching so far deep into the cookie jar to find stuff to complain about. Where, anywhere in that game recap would it have said if the Wings win it would be by cheating or whatever else? The game recap is just stating the facts. A few bad bounces for Nashville, a few questionable calls, Detroit benefited. Questionable calls are going to be there in every game, regardless of the teams or the opponent. Nothing more/less to look into here. Stop looking for unnecessary things to whine about. Edited April 12, 2008 by SouthernWingsFan
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 (edited) Here's what really gets me: "When I really watched it in review, his feet were in the blue," Predators coach Barry Trotz said. "According to the rules, you can't be in the blue." Trotz really needs to re-read his NHL rulebook: 69.1 Interference on the Goalkeeper - This rule is based on the premise that an attacking player’s position, whether inside or outside the crease, should not, by itself, determine whether a goal should be allowed or disallowed. In other words, goals scored while attacking players are standing in the crease may, in appropriate circumstances be allowed. Trotz is quoting a rule that hasn't been in effect for nearly a decade. This may explain a few things about his interpretation of the rules. Edited April 12, 2008 by edicius
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 (edited) Unbelievable. Was that article written by Trotz himself? Why does everyone fail to mention the downright awful play from Arnott? The team's supposed to be leader has only ONE shot this entire series. And what about Dumont? What about Hlavac? What about Radulov? What about Zidlicky? What about Weber? These guys are invisable, yet they are being let off the hook. I seriously can't believe that everyone is pinning the Predators failure on the refs, and not the underachieving players that have not even come close to pulling their weight in this series. The only guys that have showed up so far are Ellis and Tootoo. The rest of that team? They were MIA, and that's putting it nicely. The Predators have sucked so far, but everyone wants to believe it's all the refs handing favors out to the Wings. Do these people forget that the very same refs called a very questionable penalty on Stuart in the final minutes of the game, giving Nashville ample opportunity with a two man advantage to come back? I mean, where were the Predators forwards in all of this? They had a great opportunity, but failed to capitalize. They couldn't score, yet everyone fails to realize this. I don't get it. I really don't. The Nashville players flat out sucked, yet somehow it's all the refs faults. Absolutley ridiculous. Edited April 12, 2008 by Kp-Wings
Austin 5 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/index Fantastic. A one seed beats an 8 seed by two goals and that's the headline. Way to go, ESPN.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 (edited) And the bounce off the boards that led to both pred's goals wasn't lucky at all. ******* retards. Same with that ***** trotz. And guess what, the pred's only goal in game 1 was a deflection too. They do have a legitimate gripe about the dis allowed goal though. FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 (edited) Are we that spoiled as fans that we have to go looking for an argument? I think it's a pretty good pun off of "Detroit Rock City". As for the article, meh. There's an old saying: I'd rather be lucky than good. Edited April 13, 2008 by FireCaptain

Real1 2 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 (edited) WOW. Detroit is lucky? All three of the preds goals were luck. When you are up 2-0 and let 2 go in to tie it up, that is BAD luck. When you come back and score 2 more for a 4-2 win, that my friends is called "SKILL". (Something ESPN writers don't have). Period. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 What about Weber? I don't understand the hoopla about Weber. People act like he's some kind of elite defenseman...and yet: He plays on Nashville's third pairing. And among Preds defensemen: He's fourth in ice time per game this season. He's fourth in ES ice time per game this season. He's fourth in PP ice time per game this season. He's fifth in PK ice time per game this season. On a poor defensive team, Weber is basically the #4/#5 defenseman and a PP specialist. That he is such, and still is only the fourth PP option, speaks volumes about his skill level. In other words...there are far more important players the Predleys should be worried about the performances of.

kylee 727 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 i guess we might "luck" our way all the way to a Stanley Cup? wow, TSN and ESPN both. let's not bother about a team executing or anything... i mean, its the Euro-Soft-Choking-Folding-No Secondary Scoring Red Wings after all, right? we cant do anything good of our own. Matt 1,048 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 I don't see the problem here. Just more ammunition for Monday and another reason for the Red Wings to play with a chip on their shoulder. I think that's a good thing.

jim3033 1 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 Luck comes to those who don't count on it. Having said that, the Wings weren't 'lucky' in this game. They dominated and played better than the opposition. Bouncing pucks off skates has become an element of play in playoff hockey. Nashville's called off goal in the first really looked like it wasn't a goal and that the whistle should have been blown. Let them belittle the Wings all they want. We'll be that much more surprising when we play the next team.

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 No big deal. The more the Red Wings prove the media and hockey "experts" wrong, the sweeter this playoff run will be. I don't care what ESPN calls the game. All I know is the Red Wings had more goals than Nashville, and that is the only thing that really matters.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 Funnily enough, no matter how lucky the headline writers call it, the league won't be reversing the outcome. Also: Need I remind anyone that if not for two other "lucky" bounces, this game is a shutout. That's playoff hockey for ya.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 I don't see much wrong with that article. Frei wrote a good article before the playoffs predicting the Wings would win it all.
Firehawk 305 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 I think that it was justified that we got a very lucky goal since Nashville got a very lucky goal. It evened out there. That said, the Preds have now scored a total of 1 actual goal without a bunch of bounces occuring (2ng goal they scored today). If I were them I'd worry about generating more offense than complaining about little things.
GMRwings1983 8,793 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 I can't believe that a non-existing hockey city with a non-existing fanbase is making such a big fuss when they've clearly been outplayed in both games, and their top players have done nothing. Let's face it, they'd find something else to ***** about without the calls, such as Legwand and Sullivan being hurt, or Kariya, Timmonen and Floppa leaving. Their team is just shooting in the dark, hoping that they'll hit something. They're going down in 4 or 5 games, and the Wings will have bigger fish to fry.
