Red Wings Rest...

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

The way they have been playing, I would almost prefer the Wings do not miss a beat and play Dallas as soon as possible.

However, a rest could be just what the doctor ordered, giving the injuries you know we do not hear about time to heal and allow them to come out again firing on all cylinders. Let San Jose and Dallas beat up on each other... it takes a toll, which we know from last year.

Do you think a long rest right now helps or hinders?

Like home ice advantage rest is almost always a good thing. It's up to the coaching staff to maintain intensity and momentum in practices, etc.

Detroit is healthy, and getting rid of the Dives in 4, preventing injuries, may be the key to winning the cup this year.

I think for most teams, a long rest hurts, but I don't think it will matter. The Wings haven't really missed a beat over last off-season from last playoffs, and a lot of the players pick up right where they left off after long absences. So I think the rest will do more good than harm.

I think the Wings are playing so well right now that either a long rest or continuing play would both be fine. History has shown that teams do wear down, and I think that may be a factor late in the Conference Finals.

I think the rest is better than having to keep playing games. Babcock made a good point that every game a series gets prolonged means another chance for an injury. Unless some Wings join Zumaya's moving company, the time off should serve them well.

The Red Wings look to be a little rusty this first game back.

Unless Ken and Mickey have the game, it will get said even if they arn't rusty. They just want to blab on about how the Wings don't dersive the cup, How they have to many sweeds on the team, Chelis age.....They just wanna talk about something even if it is not true.

As for resting, I think that 4-5 days rest with 2-3 days of practice is the best layoff time for the Wings

Laperriere thinks the rest will be helpful for the Wings.

"Shocker of shockers, Laperriere thinks the Wings could be hoisting the Cup. "They're all great," he said. "All four lines make plays and all six D's move the puck well. They'll be well rested. Sometimes that can work against you, but for a team like that, I think it's going to go for them. They have a lot of hockey left, but they're going to be very dangerous." . . . "

[edited to add this quote from the article that made me grin: "Franzen, in case you didn't know, was drafted by the Wings out of the Krypton Junior League in 2004. . . ."]

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO-- IT'S SUPERMULE!

I think it will do them good. I don't see them slowing down and I expect them to come out with engines roaring again. Detroit is hungry ;)

Let's go Red Wings!

i want dallas to win tonight and all series to finish up sunday. i want it to be as even as possible, the same amount of rest for both teams (one less day for the wings). We've played every other night in round 01, and only one exception in round 2... for some reason the grueling pace has been perfect for us. We're not going to start until at least Tuesday anyway, any longer and I won't like it.

Rest is a good thing but Babs needs to keep them on their toes and sharp; the way they have been playing is great and I think if they keep it up they have a good shot at winning it all this year.

If resting two or three extra days causes us to lose the "Magic" weve been playing with, then we dont really deserve to win.

Rest is good, and should only help us in the next round. The Pens sure didnt miss a beat.

every day we arent playing and getting hit and run at is a good day of rest. They can get away for a day or two, see the kids, and just relax. Then in a couple days, get back on the ice and practice to stay in shape, then be well oiled and rip-roaring ready to go whenever game 1 is.

I tend to agree with the majority here in thinking the rest will be a good thing. However, IMO there's a fine line with getting too much rest between series also. See Detroit Tigers 2006, but TheCaptain19 makes a good point with the Penguins as well. As mentioned, Babs just needs to keep the boys going and they'll be fine.

As others have mentioned, rest is good for a veteran team, healing injuries, etc.

Being a veteran team, we also have the guys in the locker room who are self-motivated and will keep with it even if there is nothing scheduled on a particular day. They will also influence the younger, less experienced guys who may think that since we swept the Avs that they can take time off to party. That's where momentum can change- with attitude. we have the leadership to prevent that from happening.

Raise your hand if you tried to say "Red Wings Rest" ten times fast. Yeah, I thought you did.

Rest can never be bad. IMO it is like money, you can never have it too much but if you don't manage it wisely, it will destroy you.

I'm pretty confident our coaching staff and players know how to manage it. Because our biggest challenge is coming soon.

There are proponents of long rest and opponents of it. As a hockey player, I hate the 1 week between games. Especially when my teams are in the playoffs. Even if you are banged up, you really want to play and you have a high level of energy because of the adrenaline. However, having time off really allows you to rest up.

In my mind, it comes down to the coach and the policies of the club. Regular practices to keep your skills and hockey sense honed are key IMHO. Babcock won't let these guys just sit around and watch American Idol. They will be ready physically and mentally.

Unless the Dallas/SJ series goes 6 or 7 games, I'm not too concerned.

I do think that if the WCF don't start until Tuesday at the earliest, that game1 could be a bit low-key for a Conference Final matchup.

rest is good. Wings are such veterans, this can only be good for them.

"Red Wings Rest" is hard to say out loud, ten times fast. :hehe:

Red Wing Rest

Red Ring Rest

Red Wing West

Wed Wing West

Wed Wing West

I give up.

Rest is good. No one is 100% right now, everyone is a little tired from a long season and can use some days off. Like someone said before, it's up to the coaches to keep the intensity up at practice. The Wings may start flat right out of the gate but they'll be fine after a period or so.

I think it is easier to get a rusty team back on track than it is a beat up team.

Most teams that are rusty after a rest get over it by the second perios of the first game back.

Most teams that are beat up end up out of the playoffs.

IMHO I would take rest anytime.
