pucker4fischer 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 I don't think the Wings need to handle Ribeiro in these playoffs and I am sure the team will say the same thing. Write down the number and take notes for next season. I mean it is not like TURCO has been an Angel in his own end sending Filppula in the air and chopping Holmstrom like a Christmas tree. Let's worry about winning the Cup. ...and we lived happily ever after. The End. I think that maybe a good way to end this discussion. Bravo. Wings will do just that too...because they play with class. **SIDE BAR** I have to say though, flipping Flip like that was pretty funny in a slap-stick humourous kind of way *no puns intended*. I mean I'm glad he wasn't hurt or anything.
miller76 463 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 I want to see McCarty go with Ott next game. This whole situation reminds me of last years series against Calgary, when Franzen was hit by McLennon.
stevie for president 42 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 can someone please answer this question. Why was ribiero driving to the puck that hard after the game ended? i just dont get it! did he think they were gonna score with 4 seconds left with a neutral zone face off and with 2 guys in the box? and this happened right after ott mugged draper. does any else think tippet said send a message for next game? how does he get off scott free after that terrible display of poor sportsmanship? and as a side note. if you get rid of that instigator rule, who thinks ribiero doesnt touch osgood, or go after the puck when the game was over? pucker4fischer 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 In an interview after the game Ozzie says that he did hit Riberio intentionally to stop him from going after one of our star players. He never said he "hit" Ribeiro. "Even if I did butt-end him, it was an accident," Osgood said. "I was trying to protect our best player, Nick Lidstrom, so he didn't get run." If anything he was sticking his arm out like most goalies do when players are flying around the net.

The only thing I can think of, is total frustration. I think he was looking to get his frustration out against a couple of Red Wing players, caught the stick of Ozzie, and was in meltdown mode. I sometimes forget these guys are hardcore competitive, and have a hard time losing. These guys came in to Detroit believing they were the top dog by beating Anaheim and San Jose. Now they are like wtf, what happened. Damn the Wings are good. I honestly believe that the Stars feel like they cant beat us. Look at the frustration all game by Turco. We were only up by 1. Its not like he stunk up the place like the other night. We were just winning all the battles, while they were taking penalties and not executing on them. Pur frustration I believe is the culpret! The Noodle 39 14 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 Not a big deal to me... Ozzie stuck his stick out a bit and clipped him obviously and then it seemed Riberio snapped and smashed his stick on Ozzie's chest protector. I'm sure Ozzie did not feel a thing. No big deal and that was a nice dramatized fall by Ozzie hehe and yea like stated above that Turco on Flip was hilarious!!

Ya, I can understand what Ribiero was feeling, the slash wasn't THAT bad, but juts total inappropriate because of the manner and timing. You just CANT do s*** like that at the end of regulation, to the goalie nonetheless. Obviously he should have just waited until next game to settle it, but it didn't happen. I do feel he deserves a one game suspension, maybe 2-3 tops. If there is no suspension I won't be to surprised though. Just the point of time when he did it (after reg.) makes it worse. It still looks bad to me though, and the NHL just can't let players take out their aggression using their stick. On a side note I am happy as a Wings fan that we won this game as it was just a 1 goal game, we were able to hang on and look dominant.

WingsForever 2 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 Dear Hockey Gods, Please don't suspend Ribiero. His season is over in two games anyway. Also Hockey Gods, please let Babs dress McCarty and Downey. Please Hockey Gods let Ribiero get caught with his head down by a freight train number #55. Please Hockey Gods let this end in a real hockey way. Detroit Red Wings beating the snot out of numerous opponents. (Turtle, Foote, Roy) Dear Lord keep the Stars safe. I think they need to google what happened to Lemuiex after he hit Draper into the bench. McCarty beat his ass. Twice. Amen
Matt 1,048 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 Just some quick points on my thoughts on this (and I'll admit I haven't read all of this thread): - Am I the only one that remember's Turco's butt-end on Darren Helm on Game 1? Helm was forechecking in that game when Turco did the. exact. same. thing. Helm actually went down on the play but I don't seem to recall him getting up and taking a two-handed swing at Turco. - What Osgood did -- sticking his arm out a bit to slow a forechecker -- happens at least a dozen times a game. He's not trying to butt-end him there. - Saying "well, Osgood started it" is inane, at best. It's no justification for what Ribeiro did. - Also, McCarty is NOT going to "go after" Ribeiro if he's not suspended (or even if he IS, when he gets back)... I don't want McCarty's out there when Ribeiro is, unless you're prone to increase the likelihood of Dallas scoring. - The best revenge is sending Dallas home early. Works for me. - Ribeiro should be gone for Game 3.
va Winger 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 As I see it : 1)Ozzie did butt end Robiero, and in my assessment it was not unintentional. 2)The game clock had expired when Robiero two handed Ozzie. 3)I don't see how Ozzie could be injured after that shot to the chest.(maybe a bruise) 4)I think Ozzie deserves an Oscar for his acting job after the slash. 5)An action by Robiero of absolute frustration after having gone down 0 to 2 to a much better team. (maybe an attempt to get his team going for game 3). 6)A ten minute match penalty, meaning a review by the upity ups of the NHL. 7)At least a 1 game suspension, if only to send a message that blatant acts of agression(especially after the game is over) will not be tolerated. IMHO , What a dumb ass move by Robiero. Your team is already down 2 love in the conference finals and you take a baseball swing @ the opposing goalie after the game ? he will be lucky if he does get suspended. otherwise , you can bet that a Red Wing (or 2 or 6) is going to divy out some on-ice justice........The kind that makes you drink through a straw for a month or so............................ cmac19 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2008 Not sure if this was posted but this was a quote in the Dallas Morning News: I've caught guys on my own team just whirling around the net. I've seen guys get major injuries to the face, especially when you're not expecting it," Turco said. "A [stick] to someone's face at any time is pretty gutless and not fair at all. It's just something our game doesn't need."
