Rumor: Franzen Out with Possible Blood Clot?

It could be a blood clot. You can not rule it out.

I am not a doctor either but one of my bosses had one and he had severe headaches with it. He was lifting weights one day and thought he pulled a muscle and then developed the headache. Nothing he did would kill the pain so he went to the Doctor. It turned out that the he had done something to free a blood clot that was near his shoulder and the clot got extremely close to his brain. I went to visit him in the hospital and while I was there he asked me to sign as a witness to his living will which is sad because he was really thinking he may not make it. He had to go on blood thinners and was out from work for several months. He was told that he can not strain to do anything. There were also other complications that arose during this time (a small aneurysm that they had to fix). He is doing fine, lifting weights again, but is lifting small weights instead of lifting a ton. Anyhow, enough of the story, I was just commenting that it could possibly be a blood clot, but hope that it isn't.

I'm certainly no authority on medicine, so I'm speaking out of ignorance. But if the diagnosis ever suggested blood clots, wouldn't ASAP medical treatment be in order, rather than waiting a few days?

My logic on that isn't that it can't be but that if they thought it was, they would have rushed him to get it attended to and not waited 3 days.

Clots are a tough call, though. It's possible Mule could have been having headaches for a day or two, then presented a possible symptom (e.g., personality changes, motor problems) that suggested a clot.

But that's pretty much just wild speculation at this point. Who knows.

Thats true, because we definately wouldn't know that...

I hope not though.

I had bad ones that lasted 3 weeks when the seasons changed....

If it is a blood clot I wouldn't assume it's in his head just because he has headaches.

How do you know its a blood clot, he wasn't suppose to see a specialist until today. He didn't travel with the wings for games 3 and 4 so that he can stay in Detroit and get looked at. Now i'm no genius but doesn't he need to get looked at before they actually know the problem.

I would HIGHLY doubt he has a clot.... If he does, he would not be practicing from my reasoning.....

No, not definitely. Many conditions can "hide" in this way. For example, one day I woke up in so much pain I honestly thought I was going to die. This seemed to come completely out of nowhere, but as it turned out, it was a kidney stone problem that had probably been building up for years without, up until that point, causing me any noticeable discomfort.

And I only said two days to fit in with the other poster's three-day timetable, which I assumed was sort of a hypothetical.

You mean when you went to the ER or doctor they thought it was something else and did not check out the pain in your posterior abdomen or flank pain?

if your playing a contact sport with a blood clot in your brain for about 2 weeks you should have many other symptoms as well.

I did not know kidney stones were a referred pain...

Basically I was just in a ton of pain all of a sudden. Called a doctor, he said it sounded like kidney stones, which sounded strange to me because I had never had any kind of experience with them. I didn't even really know what they were. I got myself through that episode at home, then went to get some x-rays when I was feeling better. Lo and behold: kidney stone problem!

Point being, stuff can come out of nowhere. Again, though, all we can do in Mule's case is speculate. All of this is merely speculation.

But you may not. That's all I'm saying. Stranger things have happened.

For all we know, he has been presenting other symptoms and they've simply been overlooked. Obviously something like a seizure can't easily be overlooked, but I could see more subtle symptoms like brain fog going undetected.

First of all, Franzen's had headaches. HEADACHES. No dizziness and nothing else that would signify a blood clot in the brain. I mean, for all the speculation here, we could just as well say that his leg's fallen off and the headaches are a symptom, because that's just as logical as what's been going on here for the past five pages.

I'm still going with concussion-like symptoms and leaving it at that. If it was something as severe as a blood clot - or even if the organization was SPECULATING that it was a blood clot - we would have heard something about it by now. There's no point in lying about an injury like that (as opposed to the vague "upper body injury" and such) because an opposing player isn't going to be able to target a weak point like he could another type of injury. Even the very potential of a blood clot would have gotten press by now.

I seriously think someone's gotten their wires crossed because this is mighty coincidental timing, considering Timonen's postseason-ending blood clot.

EDIT: This isn't directed at anyone in particular, BTW. All the unfounded speculation is just bugging the piss out of me today. Sorry if I came across as a dick, you guys know me better than that.

There's no finger on the panic button. Personally, I see no reason to think it's a clot. I think people are leaning that way because of the ambiguity of the reports. And, of course, the fact that he's had these headaches for a little while now.

well blood clots dont usually give head aches so i think thats why everybody was just assuming it would be a blood clot in the brain.
