Nightfall 871 Report post Posted May 15, 2008 Melrose is getting back on the bandwagon. Like in 1997 I suppose. Remember when he said Philadelphia was going to beat the Wings in 5 games? Remember when the Flyers went down 0-2 in the series and he said that they would rally and win 4 straight? After the Flyers lost game 3, he showed up on ESPN with a huge red and white hat that looked like something out of the Dr. Seuss book The Cat In the Hat and was proclaiming the Wings would win it all. What a prognosticator.
Texas Wingnut 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2008 Who cares that this grease ball is saying it should have been a goal. Tell me something that hasn't already been said long before his comments. He's just finding another bandwagon to jump on!!!
stormboy 47 Report post Posted May 15, 2008 After watching the "no-goal" they called because Holmstrom was "in the crease" I hope that ref goes home - looks at the tape and comes to game 5 and gives us a "make-up call" *#@$ that! As a ref - if you mess up - you deal with it. You DON'T give the other team a break a few games later. The goal that Holms tipped in with his knee. Yea, it could have gone either way IMHO, but they called it a goal. Enough Dallas fans whined so now we get a perfectly legal goal taken away. Doesn't make sense. Wings in 5. Dallas is winless in detroit. unfortunately i think that's pretty true. imagine though, if you're that ref, knowing what hell was raised when home WAS in the crease and a goal WAS allowed, the kind of eternal torment you'd go through allowing ANOTHER one a few games later. the reality is, the kind of play that homer is best at invites a lot of close calls that the refs have to make, and it's not like was that hooking/wasn't that hooking, which, sure, just as easily may have an effect on the game...but with homer, two inches automatically makes the difference of a goal or no goal. i think so many goalies and coaches have bitched about homer that especially after the incident a few games earlier the refs are really really going to be on his ass. which is too bad. maybe i feel this way just 'cause he's our guy, but i'd rather have people go out there and play, not checking what inch their skates are on constantly. yeah, if it's flagrant and the guys way in the crease and obviously interfering call it off. if not, that's part of the game. but then again i guess they have to make it as black and white as possible. in the crease = no goal. imisssergei 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Did anyone else watch ESPN today? They showed a great replay of the goal. It was an over the head shot of the goal, it clearly showed no part of Homer was in the crease when the goal was scored, or even before the shot was taken. The whole 'his butt was in the crease' argument is officially busted. As for Melrose, you can count on him to point out the obvious. If Detroit scores that goal it is mentally demoralizing to the Stars. Up until that point they had played a really strong game, and outplayed Detroit pretty badly. If Detroit gets the first goal again, it's a different game. I'm not saying Detroit wins, but they are definitely in a better position to get something done. Love Lidstrom 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Hopefully, this pisses Detroit off enough that they come out from the gate on Saturday and give it to Dallas like they did games 1-3. I don't think Dallas will get one in Detroit. Their track record at the JLA this year was bad.

I don't think Dallas will get one in Detroit. Their track record at the JLA this year was bad. A few people I've been talking to have a theory about that game. They said, "I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit didn't try as hard to win that game, so they can win at the Joe." It would help ticket sales...the home crowd would love it to take the series in Detroit! GO WINGS!
sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 (edited) Fun melrose fact (don't worry you'll like this quote from him): Back in 98 before the cup finals started, Barry was asked on sports center who he thought would hoist the cup and in how many games. barry quickly replied. "Wings in 3. Its not even going to be close..." The Wings went on to sweep the Caps in 4 straight. HAHAHAHA. awesome. i was reminded of this fun fact today when a friend and i were discussing the finals (presumably pens/wings) and he said: "yeah, wings in 3." love it. mustang051664 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Barry Melrose is still bitter that the Red Wings never considered him for the head coaching job when he was in the Red Wings organization. He just sounds like sour grapes when he talks about the Wings, and worse when it is a team that the Wings are playing against.
ToxicGhoul 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Yes, that gave Dallas momentum. But to be quite honest, I was also a bit terrified because I was expecting the Wings to want revenge and get their goal back. I was surprised when that didn't happen. I'm sure that this slap in the face will wake them up and they'll play like never before on Saturday. As a Dallas fan, I am quite scared. In the end, the best team will win. MississippiWing 14 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Melrose is still a d-bag. Even if he hit the nail on the head with a portion of his statement, ESPN should be ashamed that he is their hockey guy. That says a lot considering how bad ESPN is with hockey. Don Cherry is their hockey guy lol.
Textbook 1 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 I'm not sure if this is already posted somewhere, I haven't been able to find it, but, does anyone know where I could find a video of the no-goal from last night? I'm sure there has to be one online somewhere. I have a buddy who missed the game because he had to work, and he's wanting to see a clip of the call. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Good grief. All we ever hear about in here regarding him is people complaining "OMG BARRY MELROSE IS AN IDIOT HE HATES THE WINGS HE ALWAYS PICKS AGAINST THE WINGS!!!!" He actually thinks the no-goal should have counted in the Red Wings favor, and has been all over humping the Red Wings' legs and stroking their egos lately. And people are still complaining "OMG BARRY YOU JOINED TOO LATE GET OFF, YOU ARE STILL STOOOPID!" I am convinced that some people in here will never be happy in life. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Download (right-click, save as...) http://www.360mods.net/hockey/lame.mp4 Youtube: As I have waited to express an opinion until I could actually see a video... There is absolutely no freakin way that is goalie interference. Turco was able to establish position well before the shot, and was not impeded in his attempt to make a save. I know I am only saying what everyone else has been bitching about, but I didn't feel comfortable committing to a position without seeing the play.
therock48880 14 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Here's the rule: (2) an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../805160373/1128 Of course, Bettman is saying it was a good call in this article.
