Jasper84 333 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 Normally when my buddies and I get together to watch playoff games, we go up to local bars around us, or Chelli's Chilli in Dearborn. We're looking to go some place different for these the remainder of the playoff games, something with more of a Red Wing atmosphere. Does anyone have any fun places they could suggest? tiff_luvs_homer 5 Report post Posted May 16, 2008 it was kind of weird in Detroit seeing smoking in restaurants, all restaurants and I think all the bars here in Denver are non-smoking (which is nice when you're a non-smoker) it pissed a lot of the smokers off though! I have mixed feelings on the whole thing, but overall I think it's better for everyone. I can't remember if they already started it, but I'm pretty sure they were going to go after the casinos as well up in Blackhawk and Central City, CO. I have never had anything bad from there, but i have heard many people compain about the food. It is more of a family oriented place, unless you get upstairs, but i dont know if the upstairs will be open for an afternoon game. Night games it should be open in which case its a pretty cool atmosphere. Its got hockeyboards all along the walls and big TV's on the walls with a bar in the middle a few tables to sit down, a pool table and dart boards. It can get pretty crazy in there im sure during a wings game. The only time i have been in there was after a tigers game, and it wasnt all that busy upstairs, but i imagine during a wings game it would be a totally different atmosphere. I'd reccomend giving it a shot once if you are a younger guy and see if you like it. If you are a family guy and wanna take the wife and kids i highliy reccomend it as a restaurant. Its very nice. Sadly i think those days are long gone... Mr. Moneybags has moved on to bigger and better ways to charge... he got angry every time he offered a seat for $10... it just pissed him off... Although that was way back when the Wings lost to LA Kings... so by now i bet a JoeVision ticket would cost $84 for this round and $145 for next round (if available) I am hoping they have it for the finals...that would be awesome... We had a blast! We were seated upstairs, however a table opened up downstairs and we were able to sit with the rest of the crowd that gathered to watch the away-game. Pitchers of Miller were only $5, which we took full advantage of. Most of all, it was awesome to cheer, taunt and high-five with the rest of our Wings-fan brethren. The service was great, the games were loud and the prizes during commercials and intermission were pretty kickass as well. I scored a Hockeytown tshirt All in all, it was an amazing conclusion to an amazing trip. I just wish I could remember the end of the game. I didn't even realize Pavs got a Hat Trick. Plenty of parking in rear. I spend many games there. Derian's Hatchy's in Utica is also very nice for Wings games. Flat screen TV at every booth. Oh, also: They changed the official JoeVision watching place to Hockeytown this year...as proven by the 80 emails the Red Wings website sends me a week. I mean, it has the Red Wings atmosphere (obviously, with all the Red Wing stuff around, and owned by a Red Wing), but the one in Dearborn doesn't have the intensity, with the fans and such. Every time I've been there, its been dull to be honest. You only see a hand full of Wing's fans, and even then there isn't the excitement that certain people describe with other places that I've read on here. It's playoff time, the Wings are doing great, so for those of us who can't afford $200 seats to the Joe, we look for the next best thing, and for me, Chelli's in Dearborn just isn't it. I was recently there in the day and was told no upstairs, no balcony. We were dissappointed as it had been our first trip to Hockeytown Cafe in a few years.
