I would read the "Forum Rules" you will find them in the upper left corner of the page you are reading now. Learn it, know it, live it; or your stay shall be short. We, as Wings fans and a successful team, have dealt with our fair share of trolls and bandwagon fans. The Sharks, Avs, Flames, Stars, and Preds fans can be as douchebaggy as anyone. But seeing as you have a few "younger" and, to use a more appropriate term "unproven" players I can see that some you will probably assume that you have the best team in the history of hockey. That in mind, the "Crosby and Malkin are better than Datsyuk and Zetterberg" arguments will get you no where fast, seeing as how no one knows the truth (Wings fans have a good idea though since one of those guys has a Cup). Also, the "Osgood isn't as good as Fleury" or "Osgood Sucks" arguments will get you no where even faster seeing as he already is a Cup winning goalie. In any case, welcome, and don't be a troll. I think we can give the benefit of the doubt, but 33, you really should be aware that considering how things are here. That's really not a subject to be used against us. People losing their livelihood is seldom a good "in your face" item, especially since many of them are also posters here. I don't know how comparable it is to the steel industry issues back sometime ago, but it's probably as good a comparison as I can give you. Snakes 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 Pens fan here as well. First off, I must tell you how much respect I have for the Wings. They have had one hell of a year and really ran away with the West. It's kind of hard to compare the two teams because of the different style the two conferences play. I can make a lot of comparisions between the two teams but instead I think the differences are whats important. Detroit seems to fair better against slower more physical teams from my observation(which may or may not be right). I think thats why Nashville gave you a bit of trouble in the first round. The Wings get the edge defensively, although the Pens play an all around better team defensive game. I feel the biggest difference heading into the series is goaltending. Osgood has been playing well, almost too well lately. I wouldn't be surprised if he's your Achilles heal when all is said and done. You can say that Fleury is lacking experience in the big dance, but he's been consistent all playoffs giving up more than 2 goals only twice. He was also on one hell of a streak coming into the 2nd season. Honestly, the team that gets the bounces and (as much as I hate to say it) the penalty calls will win this. Buckle up folks it's going to be a wild ride. Good luck guys but GO PENS! P.S. I loved the photoshops.... I hope you guys have a better sense of humor then the cryers, Rangers, and the Sens. PghHornetsFan 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 Thank you for the welcome and the fair warning...we get the same thing going on at our Home Board as you guys do here...the one thing that nevers changes is human nature...You have a great hockey tradition in the Motor City and have had your share of Dynasties. We have a very good team this year that matches up very well with the Redwings...I hope it is a Final that goes down in NHL history as one of the best...I HOPE the Pens sweep the Wings, but I know it's not going to happen...still...if things go right, I see them having a very good chance of winning...I am also sensible enough to know that Detroit also has a very good team and has a great chance of winning...GOOD LUCK!!! For 20 years the Pens have been associated with "fire wagon" hockey....all offense...no defense. 10th in the league this year...1st in the playoffs through 3 rounds.... You guys have a TERRIFIC defense....anyone saying any different just doesnt get it. But yeah...lol...we get real sensitive when our defense isnt recognized...so..it is what it is.... Inultus 12 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 Honestly, I really think this series will come down to goaltending. Both teams have a lot of offensive firepower. Now granted, Fleury has been playing sweet, but then again so had Ellis, Theodore and Turco before they played against the Wings. s***, Ellis was on a 2 1/2 game shutout streak before Game 1 of their series with the Wings, and we shelled him. The Wings have a habit of knocking hot goaltenders off their streak. I believe if we do that with Fleury and if Osgood plays like he has been, we will win the series. Sure, we want the Pens to win the cup, but if anyone honestly thinks trash talking random people six hours away on the internet is going to help, they're just being counterproductive. I know how good the Wings are. I also know how good the Pens are. Hockey is the real winner here. As far as my comment about playing an original six team.... It really would just validate a championship to beat a team like Detroit. Nobody who is a hockey purist wants to play some team that has been relocated multiple times (Cleveland/Minnesota/Dallas) or an expansion team with no history. Look at the history in this series... Countless cups... Yzerman, Lemieux, Jagr, the Octopi, all the hall of famers in these respective organizations. It just makes it feel more real. When the Steelers played the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl, it didn't feel the same as beating, say, the Cowboys or the Bears, a team with real history and real support. The NHL couldn't ask for a better matchup right now - their "savior" team with Crosby against easily the most powerful of the O6; and they're not only clearly the best in their individual conferences, but the two best teams the league has to offer. I can't think of two teams the NHL would rather have face off this year. I hope that you guys here have some kind of appreciation for how much this means to Pens fans. Hockey's "savior" team was ever-so-close to being unfairly moved due to some crooked political work and a botched gambling license deal. We were very near the point where the history of a franchise that is forever intertwined with a city was almost flushed away in order to put a team in Kansas City. My points are.... Detroit Fans: Be glad you're still playing the Pittsburgh Penguins, with their two cups, hall of fame and legendary owner, with a rabid fan base who two years ago could not have imagined reaching this point. It will be much more interesting than playing to a half-full Sprint Center in Kansas City. Pens Fans: Nothing needs to be said. You know what this means to you. It's a great validation to go from the "almost" Kansas City Penguins to having earned respect from the fans of an original six market, moving into a new arena in a couple of years, and building the kind of legacy that the Wings have always had and Pens fans worked so hard to build for many years, only to almost lose it.
