I have the same problem with Stella as I do with Heineken. They both taste skunked to me and it's probably because they are shipped overseas in green bottles. It is well-established that green and clear bottles offer very little protection for the beer.

Also, at least in my area all of the people who ask for Stella are yuppies who think they know good beer but turn up their nose at local Michigan micros. I imagine there are probably a lot lless yuppies down there tho.

i agree w/you absolutely. however, if it were free, i'd probably drink stella. you couldn't even pay me to drink heine. (well..uh..unless i was already drunk.)

Southern Comfort has both peach and apricot in it

Yet there's really no taste of either in it. There's quite a difference between a blended liqueur and a designed taste of a specific fruit/flavor.

and personally I think it's pretty damn good

So do I. Goes well with Root Beer.

Which "alcohols" are you speaking of here?

Well, one of a few I remember is Pyramid. This is the crap that tastes like hot dogs. Nasty. :puke:

I wasn't sure that you were talking about beer. Anyway, did you have the Pyramid on draft or in the bottle? I find it interesting that certain beers are way better on tap and some are way better in the bottle. Depends on a lot of factors.

I can't stand Heineken, it always tastes skunked too me too.

Haven't had Stella, no real reason to try it though.

weird..i had the pyramid apricot before, and thought it was quite good, for a fruit beer. not something i'd want to drink every day, but certainly refreshing and well-crafted. maybe you got a bad batch?

I'm with the rest of you. Heineken is s***.

Agreed. Like almost all popular worldwide beers, it bears its success from good marketing as opposed to good brewing.

Beer... Beer... and more Beer... I can't believe I've missed this topic for so long!

I love me some....

Anchor Steam (anything... The only brews I've disliked from them is a couple of their holiday beers, which change annually)

Rogue Dead Guy

Arrogant Bastard

Hemp Ale

and I've had and enjoyed tiger beer while in China. Amazingly, budweiser tastes even worse out in asia, since they use even more rice in those brews.

My typical bar beer drinks would be a bass, stella, or Molson Canadian (wish I could get REAL Canadian XXX in Cali).

If by "batch" you mean family (for their taste in beer), yes. :scared:

So, Beer tasting as part of the Beer Olympics didn't happen. We started the Olympics with a bang, but oddly enough we became a bit unorganized and disoriented as we progressed. Next time, perhaps we will kick the games off with the beer tasting.

Thanks for the tips though. :)

Good stuff, we've had Dead Guy and Arrogant Bastard on tap and both of them are great. We seem to have problems getting Anchor Steam lately but I've had a few of theirs and couldn't complain.

As far as Kokanee...I had it when I was in Kamloops and I can't say I liked it at all, but then again I'm not a lager fan. It's only in the 18th percentile on ratebeer.com though, so I'd say most people agree with me. And 5.3% may be hight up for a macro lager, but I just had a Devil Dancer the other day, made right here by Founders in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 13% Triple IPA. :drunk:

On a related note, I'm happy to say that one of the top ten beers in the world ( http://www.ratebeer.com/Ratings/Ratings-Top50.asp ) is Bell's Expedition Stout, made right here in Michigan.

And here's a funny commercial for a terrible beer.

For your amusement.

Nice ad - very funny. I used to sell Tuborg and it's big brother Carlsberg. Shockin' beer. Never worked here in Oz. Does it sell in the States?

No. Speaking of which, I was told that you guys don't drink Fosters over there?

Well, I've heard of people that do but I've never met them. They're probably just tourists from the U.K.

So on a similar note, I was told that tipping is not that much the rage there, but the customers buy the bartender drinks. Equalizer is that the bartender makes a great hourly wage. I'd be all over that. I firmly believe that my wage should be dependent upon my service and experience, not upon the type of clientele who happen to walk in the bar that night.

FWIW, I'm glad that you guys don't drink Fosters because the version we get here is total s***, maybe yours is different. They call it an "oilcan" here for a reason, lol.

Well, it is true that tipping is not customary here but it happens in bars a bit. Much more than buying the bartender drinks does.

And Fosters is a shocking beer. We have some great beers here but they come from micro-breweries. Like all good beers do. Simple.

I've only seen it in CA but, there is a beer simply named hemp ale.

For those who do not know, hemp and hops are genetic cousins.
