Am I allowed to think he's a moron after publishing his wet dream of the Pens smashing our octupus with their sticks? Lack of objectivity = moron. Sorry.

Sure, but to call him a moron is pretty far out there when he's a pretty well-established professional journalist. Seems to me when you are a journalist, you're not that much of a moron.

They've covered hockey for a long time.

If you consider those pathetic excuse for highlights (about two 5-second clips), followed by a 10 minute rant on how much the NHL and hockey sucks, then yes, I guess they do cover hockey.

Sadly, I believe he agrees with that statement.
According to my profile, my reputation is excellent. LOL.

You do understand how sports fan cultures work, right? You might as well be barging into kindergarten classes and yelling, "FARTING IS NOT REALLY THAT FUNNY, KIDS."

As you mentioned before, any analyst that comes out thinking the Pens will win is being marked a moron out of the gate by the Wings fans. While its ok to disagree, and even point out the analyst was wrong after the series is over and your team has won is fine. I just don't agree with the blatant flaming either, but I guess we are in the minority.

It's true that in a lot of cases Wing's fans jump all over anyone who doesn't put their team on a pedestal. I'm not going to go ahead and make a personal statement like Burnside is a moron as a person but to even say that the Pens defense is comparable, much less better than the Wings is a moronic statement. This crap about us having the best defensemen but them having better team defense? WTF??!!! Because all our talented guys are tripping over each other instead of making plays or something. If the Wings defense right now isn't the very definition of team defense then I don't know what the hell is. Not only do they consistently make the plays but they seem to always know where there teammates are so they can make the quick pass out of trouble. The Pens defensive had a hard time just getting the puck out of their zone because their offense take off up ice and abandons them. That is NOT team defense and if they don't improve in this area more than any other their season is done in a hurry.

Careful -- you might hurt Burnside's feelings.

I understand fully. If you don't like me commenting on such things and on how I think it is ridiculous to call somebody an idiot or 17 other different explicitives because he doesn't pick the Red Wings or actually tries to give the other team playing the Wings some kudos, well then that's your tough luck, sorry. I'm sure you didn't like when people flamed you for not liking what Ken Holland did over the trading deadline, but that certainly didn't hold you back did it? I guess we should've lightened up then?

And farting is quite fun sometimes too.

When broadcasting a game for 3 hours or giving post-game analysis for 30 minutes to an hour, you can only talk about so much. It is almost impossible not to say anything where your fan base claims "BIAS FOR THE OTHER TEAM" or "YOU HATE MY TEAM YOU FOOOOOOL!". And fans of the other team can make a similar claim for an analyst saying something in a different part of the game or analyzing to where he or she is actually favoring our team.

I agree when you're talking about a color comentator during a game, I know first hand how difficult it is to fill up the odd spots with relevant facts and figures, but this isn't commentary, it's a column on the website. They don't cover hockey games, and they don't have any broadcasters calling the games. I get your point of view, but I disagree. Burnside has picked the wings in the past and that's great. I'm a huge wings fan, but I can take criticism of the team from an expert or analyst when they make sense. His comments aren't rational, and are not based in fact. If you're a professional I think it behooves one to behave like one.

For the record I agree with you to a certain extent. I get frustrated at blind homerism sometimes as well, but I don't want to see it in a so called sports news outlet.

I'm not saying I agree with calling Burnside a moron. If anything, I'm just trying to save you time, as you're fighting a completely futile, misguided battle in trying to teaching hockey fans manners on an Internet message board.

But if you like truisms and such so much, have at it. I won't get in your way.

For what it's worth, Burnside said the Pens are done if they lose tonight.

and the sad thing is I'm not even so sure of that either. Unfortunately we have a poor history of letting up on the pressure just when we have out opponant in our grasp.
