Hotel Alarm wakes up Penguins last night!

Ok guys, who did it!

May 26, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: A fire alarm went off at the Penguins' hotel here around 1:30 a.m. today. It proved to be a false alarm, but that didn't prevent the players from being awakened when it went off.

It was not immediately clear whether the incident was a prank, although the Penguins deal with such things relatively often on the road, especially in Philadelphia.

"That's one that we've gone through before," center Sidney Crosby said. "I'm sure it's just a coincidence."

Perhaps, but the story didn't end when the alarm was turned off.

Team officials said that about a half-hour later, there was a hotel-wide announcement that it had been a false alarm, effectively waking anyone who had managed to get back to sleep.

Quite honestly, it's no secret that opposing teams have stayed in the MGM Grand hotel during the playoffs. It's a casino hotel, so one would imagine that its security is more than sufficient.

I remember in Toronto a few years ago when the Leafs were playing Ottawa in the playoffs, a local radio station got one of their morning show guys to pretend to be Jason Spezza at the Westin Harbour Castle (where visiting teams always stay).

Anyways, the guy somehow convinced the front desk staff that he was really Jason Spezza and that he'd locked himself out of his room and needed a new key. The key had the room number on it, so the radio station spent that night knocking on Spezza's door and ordering him room service at 3am and things of that nature. It was pretty funny stuff.

i remember in 2006, Wings/Oilers in the playoffs, there was a radio contest or something where this guy was dared to bring a speakerphone to the hotel they were staying in to wake them all up in the early morning. didn't follow up on it so i don't know what actually happened.
