Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 The game is to predict the roster at the All-Star break of 2009. I say the AS break because we will be past the point of "testing" players and Kopecky will be back from injury. Here's my guess: Dats-Z-Homer Franz-Flip-Hudler Cleary-Draper-Kopecky Leino-Helm-Maltby Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronner-Stuart Ericsson-Chelios Osgood Howard
timsummers 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Dats-Hank-Homer Franzen-Flip-Huds Cleary-Draper-Kopecky Leino-Helm-Maltby d-mac Lids-Raf Kronner-Stuart Lebda-Ericsson cheli i dont really know how i feel about lebda staying for next year. But it seems that babs and the management seemed to like his performance in the playoffs....especially in the finals series. Though, as much as i hate to say it, i dont think cheli can cut it as a top 6 d-man in the league anymore...other than for a leadership role i dont think he is more useful than lebda or lilja would be. GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Several of you omitted Sammy, and I seriously doubt that Babcock would all of a sudden lose faith in him after a good Finals for Sammy, when he's shown such unconditional devotion to him during all the times he sucked. marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) I would really love to see a Kopecky/Helm/Abdelkader line. I think those 3 could produce engery by the assloads and contribute offensively pretty regularly, but I dont see it happening this season unless the injury bug hits us again :/ Dats/Hank/Homer Flip/Mule/Hudler or Sammy Cleary/Drapes/Malts Kopecky/Helm/Hudler or Sammy DMac/Downey Lids/Rafalski Stuart/Kronner Lebda/Ericsson Chelios/Quincey Ozzie Howard Edited June 9, 2008 by marcaractac

puckbags 863 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) Pretty crazy that we could put a lineup on the ice that could compete with anyone without having to sign a single free agent aside from our own. Sammy will be back.. 100%, love him or hate him he will be back. Edited June 9, 2008 by puckbags

Barrie 900 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) I had a friend today ask me if I think the Wings can win it all again next year. I said, "I want to enjoy this year a bit more before I think of next year". Edit: I'll start thinking 2008-09 after July 1st. All playoffs I was saying that Sammy is one of those guys that drives you crazy in the regular season with his shoot from anywhere thinking, but he's a good in the playoffs because he gets the puck to the net. In the playoffs he created rebound chances, faceoffs in the Offensive Zone, and scored a few key goals.

Probert 5 For Fighting 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Anybody else worried that we may get Dustin Penner-ed with Filppula? About the only signficant additions I expect on the roster next year are Leino, Helm fulltime, Howard as a backup, somebody like Redden if Stuart isn't signed, and perhaps a 2nd line center if Flip gets stolen from us. PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Franzen - Filppula - Cleary Maltby - Draper - Samuelsson Hudler - Helm - Kopecky - Huds is only a PP specialist ONLY for all of you out there that think he should be on the 2nd line .. - Once Cleary gets back his playing weight and gets some confidence back in scoring He'll easily take Sammy's spot .. - Helm gets my nod over Downey/Dmac AND THEN THE LOG JAM ON D# Lids - Rafi ( thats a lock ) Kronner - Stuey ( Lock ) finger's crossed Lebda - Lilja ( toss up ) and this is where it all gets tricky .. Holland has said in the past that he and Lilja's agent have spoken but never got a deal in place.. does that mean Holland has interest in bringing back the pain train? Erickson is NHL ready and can spend another year in the minors with out being picked up by a team if hes called up and then sent back down.. Quincy is a RFA and we could lose him for waht a 1st round pick i think? Meech is under contract till 2010 and in my opinion better than quincy So now you have Meech and Cheli battling for the 7th spot .. and wtf happens there
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 The only major change I want to see is a scoring winger. That's the only area we need improvement on. And if we could get him for Kopecky, great, since Kopecky just doesn't fit with the team anymore...not that he ever did. He's useless.

If you think we need an improvement, fine, but don't say he's not fit for this team. He's exactly right for this team. Big, strong, fast and loves to hit. He's not a great offensive player, but he's got the kind of physical presence a young Dallas Drake had.
Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 I've seen Cheli's name in almost every predicted line up so far? Has there been any realistic speculation on his possible retirement?
digitaljohn88 4 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 I've seen Cheli's name in almost every predicted line up so far? Has there been any realistic speculation on his possible retirement? I believe Cheli has already said he wants to come back, and Holland already said he'd take him back. The real question, is will he crack the top 6 in the lineup? Selke13 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 i, too, am a bit surprised how much i have seen chelis name. i am not sure he is able to play at this level anymore or for a season + playoffs as the case is. i do not think i would want to see him in the line up over lebda, lilja, ericsson, quincy, or meech. ericsson, quincy, and meech have too much potential not to get a chance. lebda and lilja are not great but we did win a cup with them. i think cheli has shown (at least to me) that he is too slow and does not move the puck well enough. no disrespect to cheli, but i do think its his time...with the wings
