elriqo28 2 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 This would go down as the worst trade in NHL history. Bar none. worse than Bernie Federko and Tony McKegney for Adam Oates and Paul Maclean?
DatsMyWings13 4 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 Here is what espn has on the topic: Shopping Malkin Evgeni Malkin | Penguins | Interested: Kings? The Penguins are willing to trade C Evgeni Malkin and "dangled" him to the Kings in a deal for the second overall draft pick and possibly F Mike Cammalleri, according to the Ottawa Sun. "I've had two legitimate offers," Kings GM Dean Lombardi told the Sun. "I've spoken with ownership and we've agreed that we're going to build here for the long term. To trade away that draft pick, we're going to have to get a lot of value. I'm not seeing things change a whole lot [before Friday's entry draft in Ottawa]." Malkin is still a year from restricted free agency, but it's fueling all sorts of speculation over his future in Pittsburgh. Malkin says he wants to re-sign with the Penguins and the Beaver County Times reports that he will likely soon sign a five-year extension worth roughly $8.5M per season. But the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Penguins have made re-signing RW Marian Hossa their top priority. The peper said the Penguins will offer nearly $50M over seven years for Hossa, who could likely get $8M per year as an unrestricted free agent. Either way it doesn't leave much room for other key players such as C Jordan Staal, who is due to be restricted next summer as well.
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 If it was Kopitar and a 2nd overall pick, then I maybe believe this.
Dano33 41 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 worse than Bernie Federko and Tony McKegney for Adam Oates and Paul Maclean? WOW, i was literally just about to say that.
Dano33 41 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 I think this would benefit both teams, including Malkin. PIT would get Cammaleri and second pick overall will probably be one of the top defencemans - exactly what they need. In addition to that I don't think Malkin would want to stay in PIT, just because he'll always be #2. LAK would get Malkin (one of the best players in the league), they already have a lot of good young players on the team and drafted. In addition to that they have another first round 28th overall pick; in the second round they have 32, 48 and 61st pick; in the 3rd round: 63, 81, 88 So they are in a good shape and player of such a caliber would be very good for LAK. Not to mention it would be good for the NHL in general, Putting another Young superstar out West would be great.
wingsdiehard13 33 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 This would go down as the worst trade in NHL history. Bar none. Worse than....? Peter Forsberg, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Steve Duchesne, a 1st round selection (Jocelyn Thibault who was later traded in a deal to acquire Patrick Roy) in 1993, a 1st round selection (later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, later traded to the Washington Capitals - Nolan Baumgartner) in 1994, and $15,000,000 cash. For: Eric Lindros Anyways, I hope this trade goes through, it would severely favor the Kings.
CAredwingsfan91 28 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 i hope this happens! i get ducks/kings tickets for free and those games are awesome! i would love to see Malkin in LA im sure he would draw a lot of attention.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 Im calling hardcore bulls*** on this trade rumor. Not Malkin being shopped - Im not surprised about that - and LA is as fine a trading partner as any, but the Pens are NOT going to trade Malkin for ONE YEAR of Mike Cammalleri and Drew Doughty. Thats still not enough. Cammy is a UFA in a year. Hes also worse than Malkin in every imaginable offensive category and no upgrade on defense either. Hes also a head shorter than Malkin and offers nothing in terms of physicality. Drew Doughty is actually a player that LA needs more than Malkin at this point. Theyve got O'Sully, Brown, Kopitar, and Frolov. Thats as good a young offense as you can get. Plus Kopitar and O'Sully will be good enough to be a 1-2 punch for a long time down the middle, and they probably earn combined what Malkin does on their next contracts. LAs LAST need right now is offense. And IF LA trades for Malkin, Trade talks begin and end with Anze Kopitar. Shero is not going to accept that crap for Malkin, no matter how good Doughty might be. The more I think about this trade, its stupid all around. LA and the Penguins are both teams stocked with good young forwards, but are weak on the back end. GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 worse than Bernie Federko and Tony McKegney for Adam Oates and Paul Maclean? Yes. At least there's great players on both sides for that trade. Here, Cammalleri is a good 1st liner in LA, but Malkin is one of the 5 best players in the league. It's not a fair trade.

For: Eric Lindros Anyways, I hope this trade goes through, it would severely favor the Kings. Lindros was the best player in the world for many years, and if not for his injuries, would be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. I fail to see how that was a bad trade for the Flyers. Rice 42 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 Lindros was the best player in the world for many years, and if not for his injuries, would be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. I fail to see how that was a bad trade for the Flyers. Forsberg was considered the best player in the world at a time too. They could've kept Forsberg along with the five other players, two first round picks, $15,000,000, and likely would've had similar (if not more) success. LeftWinger 4,961 Report post Posted June 19, 2008 WOW! ...it's obvious who the Pens are blaming for their Finals demise. Malone and Malkin. Problem is, they were very instrumental in getting them to the finals, I guess the managment doesn't believe in team chemistry. Couldn't it be that Detroit was just that much better than you? Of course not, you are the Penguins! Why not fire Therrian? ...Sorry pens fans, hope you enjoyed your one trip to the Finals. Sounds like Philly all over to me! Sorry Cindy, no championship for you! They could've kept Forsberg along with the five other players, two first round picks, $15,000,000, and likely would've had similar (if not more) success. I doubt it. Floppa has never had to carry a team all by himself before, so who's to say he would have done any better in Philly than Lindros did? How can you fail to see it? Its right there in a nice organized paragraph Hindsight is 20/20, and people quickly forget how great Lindros was at one time, and how hyped he was coming into the NHL. Lindros was more hyped than any player that has entered the league since then, including Crosby. He was billed as the big, physical version of Gretzky. The Flyers didn't do anything wrong by getting him in my opinion. Once again I'll mention that if not for those unforeseen concussion problems, Lindros would go down as an all-time great. ashenhigh 9 Report post Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) Cam is a UFA after this coming season and will command $5.5-6.5 million per in a new contract. This puts Pittsburgh right back in the situation they have with Malkin. All they get out of it is what could end up being an extremely solid Dman but other than that, it'll end up being no different than the predicament they are going to be in come the Summer of '09, and with a player less effective than Malkin. This just doesn't make sense to me unless Shero knows something about Malkin that we all don't......and I'm not even talking about this theory that he "needs to be the number 1 guy". Cam is nowhere near 5.5 mil a year. He scored 11 goals in the first 15 games this year for the kings, then only 8 goals in 48 games. 8 goals in 48 games. If you dont get that, its 8 goals... in 48 games. You really think he will command 5.5 mil? No way jose. Cammy has tons of potential, but hes not anywhere near earning 5.5 mil a year.
