GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Geez Mack, your all over these trades today. I think Philly got a good deal here. I think this is a dumb trade by Philly. Umberger had a great playoff for them last year. Why would you trade a guy who appears to be a good clutch player, for a bunch of draft picks?

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Umberger isn't worth the 19th overall pick. The 19th overall pick is a mystery to everyone. Umberger is a young guy who just came off a great playoff year scoring over 10 goals. I still say it's a curious trade by Philly.
sibiriak 84 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Umberger isn't worth the 19th overall pick. Funny you should say that, seeing how he was picked 16th overall...

Glubki 17 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Philly only has 7 million in cap space to sign Carter, 3-4 RFA's and they also need to replace Smith on D. Someone had to go...

I just think picking another first round pick gives you a good chance at getting a player who is better than Umberger.

sibiriak 84 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Zetterberg was drafted 210th, what's your point? My point was, that a big player, who played well in the last season, especially playoffs, and was himself a 16th overall pick, is certainly worth 19th pick, and more. Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Philly had to jettison some cap space. Yep. 19th overall's nothing to scoff at.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 WTF is Philly doing to their team??? Serriously. Prospal had great chemistry with Briere, gone. Umberger was the second hottest goal scorer in the playoffs up to the point they were beat. I think they screw with their roster way too much.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 They do. They're slaves to the idea that big moves is the only way to win. After their massive improvement last season, one would think they would keep the core and just make tiny tweaks here and there.

Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 (edited) TERRIBLE trade by Philly IMO. Just makes no sense. what i have heard from reading the philly forums is that they need the cap space to resign carter so i guess they wanted to dump him for anything Edited June 21, 2008 by Duck Guy
Guest Four Report post Posted June 21, 2008 I'd really like to see Columbus step up and produce a good team with the trades they are making. If Filatov turns into a terrible player, I shall burn my Columbus Jersey I got when I was about 7.
Rice 42 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 St. Louis is still in the Central, so no, it's not stacked. St. Louis is actually establishing a nice, young core.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 21, 2008 Umberger gives the fans a name to root for; he played his college hockey in Columbus for those of you who have forgotten. It's a decent move by the Jax...Philly gets a good pick in return for a guy they might not have been able to sign anyway, and CBJ gets a fan favorite who could become a strong core player for their team. True. I have to admit I've been liking Columbus a little more than usual after this last season. They really challenged Detroit and they're finally developing a nice core. Same goes for St. Louis. The Central is going to be really fun to watch in the coming years. Think of the battles! Kane and Toews vs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Ellis vs. Osgood. And....erm...young guys vs. young guys on the other teams.
