Kingston 21 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 The Pittsburgh Penguins have taken quick steps to replace the departed Marian Hossa. Pittsburgh has verbally agreed to deals with forwards Miroslav Satan and Ruslan Fedotenko. Both deals are one-year contracts, with Satan earning $3.5 million next year and Fedotenko $2.5 million. Satan, twice selected to the All-Star game, scored 16 goals and added 25 assists in 80 games last season for the New York Islanders. The native of the Czech Republic has 685 points in 947 career NHL games. Fedotenko marked 16 goals and 17 assists in just 67 games last season, also for the Islanders. Fedotenko was sidelined for parts of the year with a knee injury.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Not bad, but Satan isnt as good as he used to be. I wonder if he'll play with Malkin or Sid.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Those two guys combined don't come close to Hossa. Fedotenko I'm not as familiar with, but Satan is a good all around player. He'll help them but they're still worse off than last season.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 With 52.8 committed, this pretty well takes them out of the Jagr running, unless they get pretty creative.
GVSUhockey 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 They just got slower agreed, fedotenko also seems to be more of a grinder that can chip in some points here and there....the pens have lost too much and arent doing much to replace anyone
Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Ruslaaaaan Fedetenko @@@@@@@ Not bad signings..
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Nevertheless, this does help aid the bleeding. While I agree these two together don't equal a Hossa, keep in mind that they need to fill out roster spots up front, and that these two combined are still $1.4 million less than what Hossa signed with Detroit for. Decent signings....that's about it.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 we're on top in this.. i was really hoping those Satan to New Jersey rumours were true. They'd make the salary back in jersey sales alone.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 agreed, fedotenko also seems to be more of a grinder that can chip in some points here and there....the pens have lost too much and arent doing much to replace anyone In the East, you don't have to load up now, they can be a home-ice advantage team easily now with their current roster. There's the trade deadline and all points in between to make a trade to get better, which the Pens may need to do in order to drop some salary to add somebody of significance. They need to get better before the playoffs, but that's a long way off.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 ...not unless Jagr gives them a discount... Oilers offered Jagr $7 million on a one-year, so he'd have to be pretty generous.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Pens will be dangerous even next year! good signings.. cheap too! but why only 1-yr-deals? Edited July 3, 2008 by mindfly
LeftWinger 4,958 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Oilers offered Jagr $7 million on a one-year, so he'd have to be pretty generous. ...again, who wants to play in Edmonton? Sundin $10 million, Hossa $9 million and Jagr $7 million. A lot of money offered, yet noone seems to be very interested. Why doesn't Edmonton move to Kansas City? HenryMalredo 2 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Easily replaces Malone's offense. Won't replace Hossa, but they didn't need them during the regular season is. I know most on this board love to rag on the Pens for some reason, but any team with the young talent they have is gonna stay good.
