Sepster 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Being a Wings fan and being blessed enough to see truly talented players come through the team, I've always considered being a point-per-game player over the course of one's career to be an important sign of being a truly great player. Obviously Yzerman and Fedorov fit the bill and they are rightly-so considered some of the best ever. Will Datsyuk reach that plateau this season? He has 425 pts in 445 games for his career. So, he would need to score 20 more points than games played this season to reach a point-per-game for his career. Zetterberg has 332 pts in 355 career games. He would need 23 more pts than games played, what are his chances? And what are the chances they both achieve those totals in the same season?
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 TBH, they both have a decent shot of reaching the feat. Especially toward the end of games if they are down and need to stack the top line to get a goal or two. Put Hossa with either of them, and both of their point totals will be sicker than they already are.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 It'll be close, if not this year, then next for sure.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Thats 98 points over 75 games for Zetterberg, and 100 points over 80 games for Datsyuk. Considering thats only a handful of points more for each player, Id say its doable. On the other hand, perhaps having Hossa on the team will decrease their production with not enough ice time to go around..
Slave 31 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 they both hit it before the allstar break
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 I think if the ZDH line is split they do make it to a PPG this year, if not then they will make it soon enough, the thing about being a PPG player is that you don't have to do it from day one, your prime will ultimately catch you up or in some cases continue your beyond the PPG. Happy Pancake 6 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Glad to see I'm not the only person who religiously checks the PPG status of these two. My thought is yes, this is the year they get over the hump.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 If not this year then definitely next year.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Points will be spread out fairly evenly between: 1a) Datsyuk 1b) Zetterberg 2. Hossa 3a) Holmstrom 3b) Franzen They will up their point per game averages this season, but not to a point per game. Next season is a definite.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 They got about 20 points over the regular season games played, so I'd say yeah, they have a good shot each at breaking the 1 ppg mark.

detroit4life 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Fedorov actually isn't a point per game player in his career. He has 1196 GP with 1146 PTS. His last season at that mark was 02 - 03, and even that was the first time since 95 - 96. His career has been in a downward spiral for a long time. Put the top three together. I want them to be the most dominant line in the entire NHL. Having a 2nd line of Franzen - Filppula - Holmstrom is nothing to cry about.

Zion 93 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 These two were both so good in the playoffs, both offensively AND defensively, that it doesn't really matter to me: they should just continue to be the dominant two-way forwards that everyone covets.
