Just about the only thing Detroit has going for it are the sports teams (and fans for that matter) The economy sucks, The Governor is running us into the ground and the Mayor is an lying, cheating, thug!

come on, yahoo, give us SOMETHING to be proud of! :ranting:

The topic is about best sports cities, so you have to define what you mean by that.

In terms of athletes from the area, San Diego has supplied numerous athletes to the various professional sports leagues.

If it's about the fans, I don't consider San Diego a strong sports fan city.

Pretty much it's all Chargers out here right now with some recent excitement over USD and SDSU basketball. The Padres' season can't end soon enough.

We have had two NBA franchises which both left town. Anyone who cares about the NBA roots for the Lakers.

Our minor league hockey team, the Gulls, ceased operations in 2006. NHL fans are hard to find.

No one goes to SDSU football games, not even the students. The program has continued to go downhill since Marshall Faulk left.

There are a lot of transplants that live here and come to games, so the home field advantage is not as strong.

Do you even like it, Jack? I doubt the reason you're defending it so much is not because you like to sit and watch the Des Moines Douchenozzles every week.

I think I would buy that jersey just out of general principle.

Atlanta was actually rated one of the worst sports city's in America. The Braves are always a consistent team, a team who's guaranteed a playoff spot. But they haven't sold out a regular season game in years, hell they dont sell out playoff games. Don't get me started about the Atlanta Thrashers easily one of the least popular teams in the NHL. College football is college football, no one pulls in more fans than Michigan at the Big House 100,000+ in one game.

Wings win the Cup, Pistons are consistently on top of the East, the Lions still manage to sell out the season before the first game starts, the Tigers pull in 30-40,000 every game despite there below .500 record,Michigan/ Michigan state football, Michigan hockey top 3 in U.S.

And...... Atlanta is on the list, the guy who wrote this must have been on something good.

...but they're within driving distance of Knoxville and tailgating at Vols games! WTF?

If cities actually include everything within 250 miles, I nominate Cleveland, home of 4 MLB teams (Indians, Tigers, Reds, Pirates), 5 NFL teams (Browns, Lions, Bengals, Steelers, Bills), 2 NBA teams (Cavs, Pistons), 4 NHL teams (Wings, Jackets, Penguins, Sabres), and 4 Big Ten universities (O$U, UM, MSU, PSU--ok, Penn State is 255 miles, sue me). Plus we have arena football and can mooch off Michigan for NASCAR. Pretty impressive for our size if you ask me.

Seriously, the top four in my mind are Detroit, Boston, Chicago and Philly, in no particular order.

actually, USC football, the Lakers, Dodgers, and Angels are extremely popular in LA. Though the kings are terrible, Staples Center is usually full, or close to it.

great post, btw!

Oh, I think LA is a great sports town. I just think that guy's comment about the weather was a steaming pile of poo.

Gotcha. I wasn't meaning to jump your s*** or anything. I just seem to spend a lot of time defending LA and so Cal on here a lot, even though most of the teams here can piss off. Except USC. Thats my favorite football program.

these articles are stupid...

Didn't they list Denver as one of the most miserable sports cities? I think Denver is a great city, and has great support and love for their teams. Who cares what some idiot thinks of your city in some stupid meaningless article anyways?
