Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted July 23, 2008 I know he isn't a franchise player and all that, but the kind of energy, hustle and heart this kid showed is what makes a player fun to watch. It is also something of a rare thing to find and is very valuable. I personally am looking forward to seeing him play this coming season and I think he will play an important role. Just to be clear, by important I mean he will contribute, not be the super star... I think a guy like this makes our 4th line and therefore our team much stronger. Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 23, 2008 As a 4th liner he did as expected. But with more minutes his body wont allow him to play like that, So im anxious to see how he plays with more minutes..
Wing Across The Pond 196 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 I agree, I think he's an amazing talent with a tonne of potential but he'll be in Grand Rapids this season. They can afford to keep sending him up and down from the minors as he doesnt need to clear waivers. Give others the chance first who may struggle to clear waivers. They'll use Helm during injuries. Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Interesting point. Still, he is young and you would have to imagine in great shape. It's the attitude and work ethic. You have that under everything else and its a great thing.
Wing Across The Pond 196 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Oh true, he's probably much fitter than others such as D-mac and Downey. And I recon when Babs believes its his time to get more minutes he'll be a great 3rd/4th line player. But he'll probably make it up to 1st/2nd some time. He's like a younger, faster Drapes. And we need guys like this as much as we need anyone else. Speaking of speed, though we lost it, during that triple OT I was very happy to see guys like Helm and Lebda out there with those wheels. Speed is such a cool think in hockey and when you see a guy like Helm zoom away it's just plain fun.
Wing Across The Pond 196 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Yeah I like a player with speed, and Helm is physical enough on the forecheck that he makes opponents turn the puck over on the boards. PLUS if he improves his offensive skill, he'll be great on a breakaway.
Turkey 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 As a 4th liner he did as expected. But with more minutes his body wont allow him to play like that, So im anxious to see how he plays with more minutes.. Is this definitely true? Draper isn't exactly big but he played the game with reckless abandon for years. Isn't Helm supposed to be Draper jr?
Swede40 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 I think he'd be better suiteed starting off the season in Grand Rapids where he'll most likely get a lot of minutes playing on one of the top 2 lines.

But with more minutes his body wont allow him to play like that, So im anxious to see how he plays with more minutes.. You say that as though he sped around the ice at 100 mph, going to end to end several times a shift and averaging 10 hits a game. He was playing a pretty standard energy/grinder role. Did that sort of game ever stop Drake, Maltby, Draper from playing that way seeing 13-18 minutes a night? No. It won't affect Helm either.
