Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks

This isn't a big deal, since he's left several franchises before after long periods of service.

I never did understand what his position was with the Wings lately, or how much he contributed to this team's management the last couple of years.

For me, we lost Bowman when he retired in 2002. All of your reactions are misplaced and unnecessary.

William Scott Bowman built the Wings, as they currently stand. He molded the Players, including, (by proxy), the Players he never coached, and he created the system under which they currently play.

He knows every play, every move, every thought, every nuance, of every Player on the Team, every prospect in the system, every Coach on the bench, as though they were playing/moving/coaching, with HIS body/brain.

Losing Scotty is a huge blow to the Wings. Huge.

**Edit**

To clarify, it's not only about what the Wings have lost. It's also about what the 'Hawks have gained. They've just been handed the entire playbook, every available scrap of insider information, about the most successful NHL Franchise in the past 15 or so years.

This seems like a huge exaggeration. If he already created the system we just have to roll with it so I don't see how his loss is going to screw us over. Scotty wouldn't do something that cruel.

All of that is probably true, but he wasn't running anything since he stepped down, he wasn't consulted on every move the Wings made and he didn't make any decisions. Holland has said that he lets players do their jobs, the coaches coach the scouts scout and the players play. Holland has a council, as he calls it, who he goes to and talks about potential moves. Nill, Jimmy D, Bowman, Stevie ect.. are all in it, but at the end of the day it's Holland's call.

Scotty did build the Wings and shape them to what they are today, but he built a well-oiled machine and made sure he was surronded by the best mechanics. It's a loss, but nothing is going to change.

Once again, for yourself, and for Doc Holiday....

This doesn't make the Wings appreciably worse, but it DOES make the 'Hawks appreciably better. Most ESPECIALLY against the Wings.

Good luck to Scotty and Thank you Very Very Very Much!!!:thumbup:

Worst part of it all is that he knows Detroit really well and thus knows our weakness'

WAIT!!! we don't really have any weakness'. Scotty practically built this team ( not totally) and its now indestructable :cheesy:

We also know some of your tricks :P

I don't feel bad for him leaving, Just like when Shanny left.

How so? The Hawks team is set, Bowman had no say in that. He's not going to coach them and their team philosophy is going to stay the same unless they start to regress. Bowman is taking with him a plethora of knowledge but the scary part is he probably would've know everything about the Wings regardless. It's a great move by the Hawks, they're going to be getting invaluable opinions and guidance but it doesn't make them any closer to being a contender than they were prior. They have a lot of growing up to do before that happens and Scotty won't be there longer than 5 years.

I just threw up all over my keyboard. Why Scotty, why?!?!

edit: after thinking about this for a second, the only reason I can see why this is happening is that Scotty is being sent over as a spy. He is going to start influencing his son to make a deal sending Toews and Kane over to Detroit for Sammy, Hudler, Flip and a 3rd rounder.

Phew, smart thinking Kenny., you had me worried for a second.

The Hawks didn't seem to do that bad against us last year.

This does make them better, but they were going to be better already with the signing of Campbell, plus the young stars that they have. A lot will also depend on Havlat and Khabibulin.

Dang. :( I would angry with him for defecting, were it not to be closer to his son. He is in his mid-70s (I think) and it makes sense to be close to family. Wings were going to have to move forward w/o him sooner rather than later anyways.

Scotty, you are a Red Wing for life, despite the Hawks job - good luck in Chi-town (well kind of) - best to you and your family - see you next season, may the best (Red) team win!

They are one of the teams that worry me most. It would be great to have a rival again. I loved hating the Avs. It was great when we beat them in the playoffs. The cup, itself, was anticlimatic.

Good luck Scotty. Thanks for the memories.

no offense but at least hes up there in age so he wont be a threat for that long

For all we know he just wants to work with his son for a year and then retire.

He is getting up there in age.

I guess there was some substance to the rumors about this happening last month. I'm not to worried about it though. His role with the Wings the past few years has been fairly minor. Some people are talking like its Holland that joined the Hawks.

the guy is known as a habs legend, not wings.

And thats why when Montreal came and knock on his door he wanted nothing to do with it.

Your way off. He played a huge part in the way the wings have transformed these last 12-13 years (maybe more). In Montreal he went to a team that was totally stacked and I'm not saying he had nothing to do with Montreal winning. In Detroit the whole team philosophy changed because of Bowman and it all started with Bowman pulling Stevie aside and changing his game.

He would never have left Detroit if it wasn't for his son. He's said it plenty of times that he has coached many teams but that Detroit was extra special to him.

He is a Red Wing through and through.

He's going to Chi town to sabotage the Hawks :P
