why not Andre Smith and build a team the right way...from the offense line.

Smith would be a great pick as well. At some point the Lions need a quarterback worth a crap in the NFL. Stafford has all the tools to succeed as a professional. It would be tough to see the Lions pass on a talent like Stafford.

I was a little worried today when the Lions were only down by 3 or something like that. After starting 0-12, I was rooting for 0-16, and the Lions didn't disappoint . The Wings and Tigers hit rock bottom before changes were made.

Hopefully this FINALLY turns things around.

I agree with you 100%. Look at that Dolphins. They singed, and drafted a bunch of "dirty" players, but I guess you could argue with me about what Matt Ryan has done but I think thats rare, and would rather build the team the right way like you say.

Who wants to bet me that Rod MarineLLLLLLLLLLLLLLi will be back as coach next year?

I will take that bet for sure. Since we are hiring within for Millen's replacement I would not be shocked at all.

Matthew Stafford for starters anyone?

I'm not sold on Stafford, and I'm definitely not sold on Bradford, and I'm not even sure Tebow is an NFL guy. I don't want a quarterback. I want to trade the pick, but otherwise I want linemen and defense, not glamor picks.

And I'm honestly surprised Marinelli is fired. I really expect WCF to do the stupid thing every time, and that means keeping Marinelli. Surprised he's gone. Not at all surprised that WCF won't fire the sub-architects of this mess nor hire anyone who knows what they're doing.

No quarterback taken until day 2. And I would love to have Matt Cassel to go along with Culpepper for the qb tandum next year.

Can we Tonya Harding Culpepper and just get rid of him? I have no hope for a win next season either if Culpepper is still our starting QB.

There is no chance of this team winning next season even if Culpepper is not there. The Lions need to grab a QB who doesn't have a starting job but should have one with Matt Cassel or Derek Anderson...Use Culpepper as just a "body" to backup that quarterback and then go and grab a USC's Sanchez like quarterback for long term future qb.

I was on that Cassel idea too, but the more I think about it I am shying away from that. If Cassel, and Orvolsky traded spots before the season started would their be any difference? I don't know if there would be. I'm with you though about taking a Qb next year in Sanchez, or someone like that.

You and me both. I thought he'd get another year. There should have been a complete housecleaning though.

As far as the draft, trading down isn't going to happen. Unless there's an amazing, can't miss player available, clubs don't want the #1 pick because of how much guaranteed money they end up shelling out. This might change in a year or two. I know there's something coming up which is supposed to change salaries, maybe the cap getting restructured? Anyway. There isn't that can't miss player in this draft, I don't see any teams making the trade with Detroit.

I am 100% against taking a quarterback with the first pick. There is no way in hell you can take a QB fresh out of college, stick him behind the Lions offensive line and expect him to succeed. Hell, the bastard child of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady would be a failure behind this line. The Lions need to build from the trenches out. Start with the OL, DL, and LB positions. A good OL can make an average QB better. But a good QB going with a bad OL protecting him is going to be a failure. Get either the OL from Bama or Ole Miss. Get a LB with the second pick. Then spend the rest of the draft taking the best available player at the non-skill positions. Unless its a steal, I don't want to a WR, RB, or QB drafted until the second day.

Agreed. The Lions need to spend their picks trying to make something resembling a defensive and offensive line.

I was hoping the 0-16 would bring a top to bottom housecleaning, but once again Ford displays his incompetence by promoting two guys who are partly responsible for this awful season. Now that Wirtz is dead, Ford has to be in the running for worst owner in the major pro sports.

If it weren't for Al Davis I'd say Ford would have the title by ten lengths. But then again, the Raiders have gone to Super Bowls and stuff.

Also, what Blak said......aw, who am I kidding? That's exactly what the Lions did this year: OL and LB with their first two picks. And Cherilus and Dizon suck. I'm not even looking forward to the draft. And I'm not really looking forward to next season, because why would you look forward to 3-13? If the Lions can even reach such lofty heights.

Give the players a chance already. They are only rookies.

I am not saying they were the right picks..because clearly I thought they weren't. Why draft Cherilus when Otah was on the board. Cherilus wasn't even supposed to be picked in the first round. Huge gamble. Also Dizon's size should have deminsed his value too. The best move the Lions made on draft day last year took place on day 2 when they picked Kevin Smith.

Agree 100%, but those dumbasses are probably not smart enough to notice it. Thats the worst part of all of this ):

Rookie or veteran, there's only four players that clearly don't suck and maybe two more. Hanson, Harris, Megatron, and Kevin Smith are the only players that you can definitely say belong on NFL rosters, and I'm willing to also say maybe Ernie Sims and Cliff Avril (five sacks as a rookie isn't too shabby.)

Mario Williams was horrid his rookie season for the Texans. People thought Houston was nuts at the time for picking him instead of Reggie Bush. Mario is one of the best defense ends in the NFL and clearly is the better choice now.

I still pick linemen first in the draft, with secondary picks in round 2.

I think Sims would make just about any NFL roster. But yeah, those 5 are about the only ones. The only game I saw this year was Turkey Day, so I can't comment on Avril. But you're right, 5 sacks as a rookie is pretty good.

And I've got full faith that the Lions will somehow find a way to screw the draft up. I wish I could find it, I read something the other day about Millen's draft choices. The vast majority of them aren't even in the league anymore.

Well I don't know if all these guys are still in league yet, but off the top of my head I can name some pretty bad Millen picks: Mike Williams, Charles Rogers, Klimba Edwards (sp?), that guy from the Army, Teddy Leham, Boss Baily, and Joey "Ball game" Harrington.

On top of that I always thought Dozin, Stanton, Cody, Bullock, and that guy from Hawaii were dumb picks. Jeff Backus was a Millen pick too IIRC, and he needs to go too.

WHOA!! Caleb Campbell (that guy from Army), was not a bad draft pick. Gamble?? yes!! No one knew the status on if he could play in the NFL or not. Worth a shot in the 7th round, pick 218 overall. Most of the time you are lucky if your 7th rounder even puts on a uniform for a game.

Kalimba Edwards had 5 sacks this year for the Oakland Raiders, Teddy Lehman played a few games this year for the Bills, Boss Bailey plays for the Denver Broncos.

Charles Rogers and Joey Harrington were "can't miss" players in that everyone liked the picks at the time.

I question the Mike Williams move the most in that you still had players like DeMarcus Ware, Shawn Merriman in one of the best LB drafts ever.

I agree on your reasons about Campell, or that guy. I say it's a bad pick because he never played one game for the Lions. I know that wasn't his fault, but still he never played. I also liked the Rogers/Harrinton picks at the time, but it didn't work out. Boss Bailey had 7 sacks in 5 years with the Lions, and I'm surprised Edwards had 5 sacks this season, because he only had 7 while in Detroit.

Wow, now that I think about it Kevin Jones is another classic Millen pick that I was really high on but didn't do much.

I hated the Charles Rogers pick. I'm admittedly a little biased, but I watched three or four MSU games that year and Rogers was dropping passes in all of them. At the time we had some pretty fair WRs (this was before Bill Schroeder put Football Repel-O on his hands and when I still thought Az Hakim was any good) and complete ass for cornerbacks. Hated the BMW pick too. Harrington, I thought would be good, but nope, sucked too. I was real excited about Kevin Jones and Boss Bailey. Hated the Artose Pinner pick. Liked Teddy Lehman. The Cherilus pick was infuriating - they could have had Brandon Albert, who is actually good.
