Torless 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) I'm curious to see if this rumor has merit (http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=16407)... now the two biggest questions I can think of are: 1. Who would Pittsburgh have to give up for Gabby 2. Is Minnesota thinking top draft next year? What are they thinking? I guess since he's UFA next year they might lose him anyway... still, he's the franchise player and unless they land a Malkin it can't be worth a swap. Any thoughts? edit:link Edited August 4, 2008 by Torless
DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I really can't see Minnesota giving him up. Other than his lack luster playoff performances, without him Minny starts to look bound for the links a bit early this upcoming season.
Penky26 2 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 interesting. I'm with you and dont see what Pittsburgh could give up to make it worth it for the Wild. Pittsburgh gave up a good bit to get Hossa, so I dont see them having a lot of young talent to give up for Gaborik
StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 It's EK so I wouldn't put too much into it. I think he hears somethings but guesses on who might be interested. The Pens already gave up a lot to get Hossa and it would take a similar package to get Gaborik. Also he'll be getting 7-9mil in his new deal while the Pens already have almost $42mil committed to salaries for 09-10 and only 5 forwards are signed. So are they really gonna have 50mil committed to only 6 forwards, 5 D and a goalie? Even if the cap went up to 62mil they would only have 12mil to sign 11 players. Oh and not one of those fowards is Staal.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 And then when he walks at the end of the season, Pittsburgh fans will feel slighted once again. I don't see the organization doing that again.
Fireside 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I don't see this happening but the Pens would have to give up a lot to make it happen, and then they would have to dump some guys to make room for his contract.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I'm guessing Whitney would go in the deal with Tyler Kennedy, and probably a draft pick. It couldn't be a low one, because Pittsburgh will do decent next season, making their picks less valuable.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 This would only happen on the deadline and only if the Wild were doing bad.
ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 Staal for sure would be involved in that deal, from what I heard he at least wants 5 mill.
stud_defenseman 1 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 L.A should go for him, they need to spend some more money.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 Staal for sure would be involved in that deal, from what I heard he at least wants 5 mill. Staal wants $5m? Serious? I like Jordan Staal but that's crazy.
frederick9125 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2008 Jordan Staal, Brooks Orpik, a prospect, and 1st for Gaborik and Eric Reitz?
HadThomasVokounOnFortSt 878 Report post Posted October 3, 2008 I don't see Minnesota giving up Gaborik for somewhile.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 3, 2008 Haha, overload on one line and have no other talent spread out? Go for it Pittsburgh. Philidelphia will run you guys over and then Montreal will finish you off. No chance even with Gaborik.
evan_a2 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 If the Wild want to stay competitive for a few years then they would be wise to keep Marian. If he leaves, what would really entice free agents to come to Minnesota?
