SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted August 29, 2008 It isn't a typo, the NHL doesn't change one's jersey number if they switch teams until that player plays in a game with his new team, assuming he has a different jersey number. Conklin wore #35 in Pittsburgh, they haven't changed his jersey number even though Howard isn't officially on the roster right now. My guess is Conklin will take #29 since Howard already wears #35 when he's not in Grand Rapids.
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted August 29, 2008 yea its a typo, malts is still
U.P.Wingsfan 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2008 Because longtime Wings forward Kirk Maltby wears number 18 (which Hossa has worn his entire NHL career), Hossa will wear number 81 with Detroit according to : http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2008/07/th...n_hossa_no.html and of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mari%C3%A1n_Hossa

Hank > Hes Lazy And He Sucks, but he still took Hanks #20.

Hey? Robitaille wore #20 before Zetterberg debuted and then Lang took it after Luc left. Hank never wore #20 for Detroit.
DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted August 31, 2008 they don't even have him in a wings jersey so its probably a typo

Hank > Hes Lazy And He Sucks, but he still took Hanks #20. Fischer didn't HAVE to give up #2 for Hatcher. Whether Hatcher asked for it, or Fischer simply offered the number up, we don't know, but there was likely a gift or dinner involved in the switch. If Fischer was really attached to the number or if Hatcher didn't care one way or the other, he could have kept the number. There are no "rules" but there is a code among the players. It would be a "typo" if the NHL had edited Hossa's profile and typed in 18 instead of 81 for his number.
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted August 31, 2008 Damn. Reading the thread title got my hopes up that Malts had decided that his time is past and was gonna retire and give up the
RainingBlood 8 Report post Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) http://redwings.nhl.com/team/app?page=Play...mp;service=page anyone know if this is a typo Its a type o. Until they find out exactly what Hossa is wearing they just took his player pic, numbers and stats from NHL.com and ported over to their site. If u notice Maltby is still 18 too. Chelichic 12 Report post Posted August 31, 2008 He is 81. As Yzermania posted in Hossa Shirt Available http://cgi.ebay.com/Detroit-Red-Wings-Mari...Q2em118Q2el1247 the link is for size XL but he has more sizes in his store. I just ordered one. I figure it's a cheap alternative for those who don't wanna dish out the money on a jersey when h might only be here for 1 year.

DatsyukRules 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 They should have a 1 on 1 bubble-hockey game for number 18. If Maltby's Bubble-hockey skills are anything like his hockey skills, he'll get smoked. Give Hossa #18.
Zion 93 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 Wow, Maltby give up #18 to a rental? All of you who even, in jest, suggested this can turn in your screen names at the door. Good day.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 Wow, Maltby give up #18 to a rental? All of you who even, in jest, suggested this can turn in your screen names at the door. Good day. I don't think Hossa classifies as a rental with the Red Wings at all. Hossa's time with Pittsburgh was a rental situation, but Hossa is signed here for the whole season, with the potential to re-sign next summer.
Zion 93 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 Don't get me wrong: I'm thrilled he's here, but the Wings can't afford all three of Z, Mule AND Hossa.
DatsyukRules 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Don't get me wrong: I'm thrilled he's here, but the Wings can't afford all three of Z, Mule AND Hossa. That still does not make him a rental.
RainingBlood 8 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Don't get me wrong: I'm thrilled he's here, but the Wings can't afford all three of Z, Mule AND Hossa. Not if the cap goe sup again they might be able to. Look at it this way Franzen will get somehting but they wont have the break the bank to keep him, and hopefully Hank will defer some money and maybe some of the vet's too to keep Hossa around. Who knows till next offseason. But hell this season is gonna be a fun one.
Booster313 138 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Just doing some quick calculations and I think that we would need about a 6million dollar increase and some flexablilty from everyone envolved to keep Hossa, Z, and Franzen.
