Quincey agrees to two-year deal 500k per season

i didn't see the terms listed...i'm still a bit foggy on how the salary cap is figured with players playing mostly in the AHL but coming up occasionally for time with the wings. (this is just due to my own lack of research.) so assuming that kyle playes most of this season with the griffs, does that mean the numbers won't affect the cap? in that case, wouldn't trading him have no effect on the cap? i know this has been discussed to death here, so feel free not to respond. just typing my thoughts.

thanks for the post. :)

Yeah, its looking more and more like Lilja is going to be traded before or during training camp, because with his 1.2 Mil cap hit gone, we should be under, even with McCarty

I doubt that will happen since Lilja just re-signed and I'm sure asked about his playing time next year. I have to beleive it will be Meech or Lebda or both moved.

I swear i heard Holland say Lilja was just a fallback plan in case the defensive prospects don't pan out(can't find it yet, though im 90% sure i heard it, will post link if found), which i believe at least one, if not more of our prospects will be NHL ready

Edit: Not the best source, but here is one place with it

With that being said, who is most likely to be involved in trade talk? The player who comes immediately to mind is Andreas Lilja. Ken Holland even suggested as much when announcing the team signed the big d-man to a new contract eariler this summer.

I'm crossing my fingers to see Lebda in a different uniform next season! :)

^^ Smartest guy on forums.

Anywho, Glad quincey resigned, I love this kid, Im hoping he can play a good defensive game, deliver some nice timely hits, and drop the mits from time to time. I got to see him a few times last year in person, and watched him the year before quite a bit, I think he brings another dimension to our team. We have the known puck movers, now we have a gritty guy who can play a good offensive game also.. Im excited, I hope he can earn a spot this year.

Lids - Rafalski

Stuart - Kronner

Lilja - Chelios

Quincey - Meech

Thats my top 8 D-Men, For a good offensive team you'd put Cheli in, because of his good positioning. For the physical teams you'd put in Quincey, and for the teams where you can run up the score pretty easily throw in Meech.. Meech is also the 14th Forward also basically, So yah.. I like it.. Anything Lebda could do, Meech could do better..My fondest memory of Meech was when he played last year and there was a little shove. I think it was against Anaheim and Meech said "I'LL F####ING KILL YOU" i just rolllllled laughing. But after seeing him play in a 4th line energy roll.. I can tell he's just an all around solid addition for our team..

All i have to say is yuck. Trade Lilja and Samulesson now. Here would be my top 8

Lidstrom - Rafalski

Stuart - Kronwall

ERICSON - Chelios

Quincey - Meech

I think Lilja gets more flack than he should, but I do hope Lilja is the one to be traded. Of all 5 of our bottom-pairing guys in Quincey, Meech, Chelios, Lilja, and Lebda, Lilja is the one who, to me, least understands his role on the team. If you bench Lilja, he'll become restless. He did exactly that 2 years ago when he was benched for a bit. He even threatened at one point to ask for a trade. Even Chelios, at this point, understands his role.

The way I see it, if you let Lilja go, not only do we gain the cap space we would if we were to trade BOTH Quincey and Meech, but it opens up a bit of a revolving door for the last spot on the team. Holland has said Detroit will carry 8 defenseman, and with Quincey and Meech still both being somewhat of unknown commodities, it allows them to BOTH get time in that #6 position, which might allow the Wings to make more of an informed choice about who to keep in the following off-season when its Ericssons time to shine and Holland may want to scale back to 7 defenseman.

;o1

Do you honestly care that much? does the - make that much of a difference where you cant understand my point? If you want to argue with me about something legit thats fine, But to complain and try and put me on the spot because of a - between resigned and re-signed.

Your punctuation in that sentence isn't correct, Mr. Self-Righteous.

Lebda makes the most sense to get rid of, since he is extremely easy to replace. You could probably pick up anybody from GR, give him Lebda's spot, and not even miss a beat. His only asset of speed if fairly useless when he basically can't do anything else to go with it.

Lilja however, makes a lot more money, so for salary reasons (and also the possibility that YoungGuns mentioned about him being restless if benched), it makes more sense to trade him. I'm by no means a Lilja fan, but I'd probably still keep him over Lebda. That said, I don't think it'll happen.

I vote trade Sammy, Lebda, and Lilja, none of them bring anything untangable to the team, and all fo them are holding spots where kids should come up and play in. Besides, we could use some draft picks and prospects, never have enough of those.

Of course Chelios knows his role on the team... he's so old that any contract he can get would be worth respecting. If he still wants to play, he knows it will be in a limited role for limited money. He doesn't have a choice.

That being said, why all the Lilja hate? I always thought he and Lebda made a good 3rd line pairing. I don't understand AT ALL what you meant by him NOT know his place on the team. I think he knows EXACTLY what his role on the team is... Big body, get into shooting lanes, kill the penalty, block all of their shots. And he's always done a pretty damn good job at it. Sure, someone needs to go, but I STILL don't understand some people's reasoning as to why he should go.

Saying "he doesn't know his role on the team" doesn't hold much water until you try and explain why... maybe give some examples?

Lilja is our leading hitter, leading shot blocker and plays an important part on the PK, which will be even more crucial to the team this season since Chelios' role is supposedly going to be reduced this year. Trading him makes less sense than trading one of Lebda or Meech who are both offensive-minded, smallish defenseman. I would say trade both Lebda and Meech so we have enough cap space to bring up Downey or Mac whenever needed. We can also use Ericsson as the first-call up from GR due to injuries that way.

The problem with that is that there still isn't enough cap space cleared. The Wings with Cheli and Quincey signed are about 1.2 over the cap, Lebda and Meech only clear about 1m on there own, there would have to be a third NHL roster player thrown in.

At first I didn't think that the Wings would sign and trade Lilja but it looks like Lilja knew it was a possibility before he signed which makes me believe it will be Lils that is gone.
