So im a huge fan of nhl08 on the 360 but I wanted to get some input from people on here that have played both 08 and the new nhl09. I played 08 with default controls shooting always up, and shots and dekes were always consistint shooting in the top goal and bottom goal. In 09 with the same control setting its like playing with an inverted control when shooting and deking at the bottom goal. My question is did this bother anyone else or am I just in the minority? also if there is anyone that can give me advice on how to fix it, that would be alot of help.

PS I love the game I just want my controls not to inverted when im shooting at the bottom, it makes me a sad panda sad.gif

PSS OMG HOSSA AND THE WINGS ARE UNSTOPPABLE IN THE GAME!!

I started Be A Pro today on the 360, and after my first game, the Red Wings sent Filp down to GR and brought up Helm. I thought that was kind of weird.

I always had shooting towards the net, it feels much more natural that way... when you're going down and you want to aim up... it does take some thought but its not hard to get used to

It just makes it so difficult after playing 08 to try and get used to inverted controls when your going down, I don't know why they would change a good thing. Thats the best way I could think of as well. If anyone has anymore postive feedback on how to fix this problem that would be great. Duck guy you play on Xbox live, I would love a ducks wings match up tongue.gif I'm puck pwner find me and we can play, that is if I can fix these terrible shooting controls going down.

I got called up to the 3rd line on the Wings and had 12 goals in 8 games, +7, then sent back down to GR... I played about 30 games straight yesterday but that pretty much killed my desire to play

Is it me or do you have to be in a club to do the hockey league? I hope someone around here does one cause i wanna try it out! Was hoping for an option of maybe some pick up and play? Is it there or am i just stupid...? Navigating the menus is probably my most time spent in nhl 09 right now lol the menus are a bit confusing...

Thank you Teeman!

I think I spent half my time with the game last night 'fixing' the rosters (example Chelios rated 84 vs Rafalski 83 WTF man??) and the other half playing 5 Be a Pro games.

I'm with you on the shooting on the bottom goal too. Weird. I think I have 4G 3A in 5 games as a PWF Center on All-Star level. And I am 0-2 in fights sad.gif

So far a fun game, I think it will be a while before I even touch Dynasty mode.
thanks offsides!

Hows the actual gameplay vs 08? On 07 i could score about 35 goals a game on super star 5 min periods. Sense 97 ive masterd the EA NHL series. 08 i just couldn't figure out. I like to play a good puck control passing game, i don't like taking garbage goals. 08 Just does't seem to suite that style of play. As much as they aimed it to be that type of hockey its not. If you play online anyone decent at playing a garbage style of hockey will tear you apart if your a set up type player. Theres just no way to really defend against them assholes that hold on to the puck then cut across and shoot towards the direction they came from. Like you can honestly score 50% of those shots. That s***s not even fun. Is 09 a little better?

I just picked up NHL 09 and will play tonight but out of curiosity, if you know that they are scoring in that manner, shouldn't you be able to stop it? I mean, that's what sets us apart from the AI who can't adapt to things it was not taught.

For example, if you have ever in your life seen Sensible World of Soccer (you can download it in the market place), its an old old old (!) soccer game. The game place is super simple. Everything is one button...hold it for a shot, tap it for a pass...thats it. If you run towards the goal at an angle and shoot, the goalie can almost never stop it. So everyone tries doing that and to be fair, it works quite a bit, BUT because you know everyone is going to do it, it is also somehwat easy to defend because you know exactly where they want to end up with their setup, you know where they will take the shot at, etc. Sure, you will give up a few goals like that every game but people knowing only that one technique always have a hard time beating you if you know how to defend most of it. I figure NHL 08 should be the same way, but I never played 08. smile.gif Just curious...

Love NHL09, I've been playing it nonstop since it came out Thursday. Love Be A Pro mode, I think its really fun and immersing, I really wish I had the time to start an EAHL team, I think that would be amazing fun. The AI of my teammates is tremendously lacking at time. I think Samuelsson was the model for the AI, you'll be significantly ahead of some players with a wide open passing lane and instead of passing it ahead, sometimes they decide to take it themselves and you get called for offsides. And good luck getting the AI to give you a decent pass when you are open, more often they will hang onto it and try and take it themselves until you are swarmed by 2 opposition players who molest the hell out of you when your AI teammate finally decides to force a pass in. And the AI next to never takes a one-timer off a perfect set up, the take the pass, handle the puck, wait, wind back, and then shoot high.

But the AI problems asside, this game is incredible. Player growth is alarmingly slow tho (2G, 1A, +4, 8 Hits, 7 Shots, Overall Grade of A- = 14 XP?????!)

This game suffers from the same old problems that plague it every year. Horrible AI. I have had so many offsides called because a computer player went offside or worse skated into while I had the puck putting us offsides. If I had a dollar for all the whiffed on one timers in the slot that the AI has had I would go out and buy myself an NHL franchise. But the worst problem with the game is that the AI cheats. I hate how whenever I have a lead in the third period some how mysteriously my goalie starts letting in unscreened back handers from the blue line while the AI goalie suddenly turns into the second coming of Terry Sawchuck. It's the same problems that were in NHL 99 and will be in NHL 19.
I remember the good old days when LGW was worth going to and not full of blind homers who freak out just because someone thinks that the Wings aren't perfect.

Remember that your right trigger is call for a pass and your right bumper is call for a shot. If you wait for them to involve you in the play, you may be waiting a while. But if you call for a pass you will usually get it... even if it was entirely the wrong move. They will pass it into 2 D if you called for it. Watch your stats though because it will fault you for calling for bad passes. The call for a shot is good when you want to try your hand at being Homer and screening. Since I learned to call for the shot I've quadrupled my goal output... -grin- from none to four =) Give it a shot.

You go to online community, online community team play and join a game. You'll play as your pro.

I have completely re-done the rosters, just as I did in NHL 08. It took me probably six hours, all told. They're far better now.

I'm not sure if there's any way to send them via Xbox Live. Let me know if there is, and I'll send them to whomever wants them.

What do you mean by re-done, editing player stats and make trades?

Within a week after regular season starts a new roster update will be added with all new guys like Stamkos, etc.
