Filppula reports improvement, eyes Friday return

Update from Wednesday's morning skate: Center Valtteri Filppula continues to skate but can't take normal shots as he wants for his jammed right thumb to heal.

"I felt a lot better today. I don't see it's going to be a lot of days, hopefully Friday (return),'' Filppula said. I did a little shooting, not full out but it felt pretty good. I didn't take the faceoffs at the end.''
