i guess i just don't see the point of a whole bunch of people being like "ZOMG NOOB!!!ONEONE!!!"

That'd make some sense if eva wasn't a member of the site for five years.

BTW, I'm more of a 'noob' than you.

That explains the nameplates, not necessarily the choice of a different font. Not that I've been paying particular attention but I haven't noticed other teams using different fonts for their preseason jerseys.

Most if not all other teams don't stitch the names directly on the jerseys, so it's easy just to use the same nameplates all year round.

Lol. Sorry.

Okay, you're not having a crack at me. I guess I'll let others defend themselves if they want.

I find it amusing that some Red Wings fans still haven't grasped this concept yet.

As rage said, perhaps Shoe is a new Red Wings fan, hasn't visited these boards before this preseason or never saw a preseason Wings game. Doesn't make him/her any more or less of a fan.

I don't remember this from last year, and before that I wasn't a member.

To be honest, I looked at the pic, went into my Malts file, didn't find one of his back, went into my Val file, checked out his back and then came back to find that if one doesn't know that they use a different font in the preseason that one is not an avid fan.

Please consider that some of us don't get the games televised nor are we close enough to civilization to attend games, and may not know these things.

Aside from which, I'm a chick. If a guy has his back to me, I'm not checking out his font.

aww, the lgw elites found a thread to identify themselves as part of the in-group. that's cute.

I know it just gets annoying to have re-explain things every year i.e. Why do people at the Joe throw Octopi on the ice, where did that originate from, why do the wings have different fonts on their jersey this year? Is it normal to have a third nipple? These things just get repetitive and annoying.

Once again, god forbid someone "doesn't know as much" about hockey as you. If you're annoyed with having to explain these things to noobs then don't bother responding in the thread. Not everyone has the hockey knowledge that people that have been around the game their whole lives have. It's not their fault, nor should they feel they can't post a question.

TBH, what I'm annoyed with is all the people that start threads by saying, "I'm sure I'm going to get reamed out for this" or "please don't go off on me for this question". It's sad that some people fear posting a simplistic question because some "hockey geniuses" around here may criticize them for it.

If someone repeats something, its up to the mod staff to merge threads. If they haven't caught it yet, perhaps the member base here would be kind enough to answer their question and post the duplicate thread (if there was one).

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Some one had to say it, and i completely agree with you. I know a ton about hockey but when i have questions most of the time i don't ask them because people flame you for asking them.

Don't get on your high horse and single me out. I was just explaining why the "elite" were getting in a tussie, I guess the sarcasm in my post went above your head eh.

I guess pre season is more important to some than others, never thought 2 pages of replies would come of this anyway thanks for the explanationS.

I'm going to file this one under I can't belive I never noticed it just like the little arrow beside the gas tank pic in cars who knew that told you what side the tank was on. Guess I'll need to rent more cars and watch more pre season hockey.

Arched letters would require an arched nameplate. Thats too much trouble for that many jerseys.

Yeah.....your post seemed to be chalked full sarcasm. [/sarcasm]

BTW, I quoted your post because you stated that it gets annoying having to repeat things every season. I then posted an easy solution...don't bother posting if you get annoyed, but don't make people feel bad for having a question that you deem annoying.

I'm not on a high-horse, I just don't want people to be turned away because some people here (not necessarily you) feel the need to belittle them if their question isn't of the highest hockey intelligence. What an ass am I.

I never even remotely hinted that I was a better fan for knowing. All I suggested was that it seemed like a stretch to me that a Red Wings fan wouldn't pick up on this obvious difference in the pre-season.

If Shoe is a new Red Wings fan, that's fine. The question was answered.

Below is your initial quote:

TBH, bolding the words "Red Wings fans" absolutely made it seem as if you were knocking others for not knowing this fact. The fact of the matter is its not a stretch if not only the fan is new but if they don't have access to preseason games or haven't been on LGW until after the last preseason. I don't get preseason Wings games in Green Bay, WI and I certainly didn't know they used a different font on their preseason jerseys until I started viewing this site.

Is this not the perfect environment for a fan, new or old, to ask questions related to thier favorite hockey team? He asked a simple question and got more "You're an idiot, you must be new or know nothing about hockey, scoff" than helpful answers to his questions.

If it's SUCH a hassle to repeat yourself, then how about NOT SAYING ANYTHING AT ALL and letting someone else with more patience answer their questions in a normal manner. I thought that's what these forums are for, not ganging up on people who don't know as much.

Why are people trying to prove whose e-penis is bigger? There's no point.

I've watched the Wings my whole life and didn't figure out that their preseason jerseys were different until I went to the game on Wednesday (the first preseason Wings game I've ever been to.)

Does that make me any less of a fan? Does that mean I don't know anything about hockey?

No. It means I let a small detail get by. Stop getting on people for asking questions.
