That could be. There has to be some reason behind it.

In regular season games, during TV time outs, they come out and scrape the ice at the goal area. It could possibly be they take the time out for this reason in pre-season too. Just a guess.

Also of note (thanks to Tre Kronor over on RWC for some of the data), is that the leading pre-season scorers for the Wings are:

Zetterberg - 2g, 1a

Leino - 1g, 1a

Emmerton - 1g, 1a

Helm - 0g, 2a

On the NHL "real time" scoreboard, they showed how many inches the puck has missed the net.

Anybody know how they figured that out at such speed?

You're incorrect about that. They're stating how many feet the shot was taken from and that it missed the net.

"Missed Shot: DET ERICSSON,J. 64' Over Net (16:52 3rd)"

they show the distance from the point where the player shot the puck to the goal, not by how far the shot missed the net.....otherwise..."...missed shot by ericsson 64', over net...." ;)

I hope he plays in the broadcasted games coming up so we'll know for sure. Ken usually finds out how to pronounce a name before he calls a game.

True, I would love to hear Babcock say his name, I bet it is awesome haha. Houdler and Filipoola would agree.
