An oddity with Leino (he's not in the GR lineup tonight)

Leino's not playing in GR tonight- no sign of him on the roster given for tonight's game on the AHL website and no sign of him on the game summary either... I've searched all the usual places- Bruce McCloud's blog, Red Wings Snapshots, and the Red Wings Central forums.

Franzen's rumoured to be returning on Tuesday- meaning he can't be retroactively put on LTIR (he was injured on the 25th of October- so he doesn't fulfill the 24 day requirement if he comes back on Tueday, and regardless- he wouldn't fulfill the 10 games missed requirement by then). There's no room for Leino under the cap unless someone is waived. McCarty can't be waived to make room- he's only making 500k and there's 49.15K left under the cap with him here. Leino has an 850k cap hit.

Is there a special rule for single game call up relief players?

Or is something else going on? I don't imagine Leino's a healthy scratch unless it's for movement reasons (good or otherwise) since he's a vital part of the GR scoring capacity and had a fantastic game last time they played.

Any thoughts?

Edit: Turns out he has a sore hip. Get well soon Ville

Leino out a few days with sore hip

by Ansar Khan

Some people were wondering about Ville Leino's absence from the Griffins' lineup Friday. Mike Zuidema, the Giffins beat writer for The Grand Rapids Press, said Leino has a sore hip that will keep him out a few days. Coach Curt Fraser said it wasn't anything serious.

It doesn't appear Leino will be recalled by the Wings anytime soon. Johan Franzen is due back from his sprained knee on Tuesday, so he won't go on long-term injured reserve, something that needed to happen to clear enough salary cap space to bring up Leino.

Perhaps Leino will be the next forward recalled, if someone gets injured. Though offense isn't a problem for the Wings, they probably would like to get a look at Leino in an NHL game.

No problemo.

seems like ansar reads these boards.

Considering he covers the wings, it would be a smart move n all... We may not be the foremost source of information, but we catch diamonds every once in a while. Lots of opinions to readon on subjects too :P
