Boucher question

Rate this topic

Alright I have a goofy hockey question and this has always been the place to get answers. I live in phoenix and have seen the Sharks play twice this year. Both times Boucher has been in net. Whenever the Sharks are on the power play and it is winding down he will not bang his stick to signal the power play coming to a close, instead someone on the bench will bang their stick on the boards. I know it is a weird question but I have never seen a goalie not signal the end of a power play. Anyone know why or if he is the only goalie that does this.

Goalies tend to be a rather superstitious lot. That might have something to do with it.

Although it might be a SJ Sharks thing, more so than a Boucher thing. The bench is closer to the players on the PP, so it might be something that the coaches in SJ have instituted. Anyone know if Nabokov does the stick tap?

I honestly don't know on that one.

I have also notice that the PA announcer don't announce when the penalty is over. Didn't they use to or do they still?

They prolly don't want him to blow an elbow joint banging on the ice.. so they let the real men on the bench do it

I dont ever remember them announcing when a penalty is over....

Yeah i can't remember if the Pros do that or not... i know watching some CCHA games i have heard it there and I have heard it during the Plymouth Whalers game a lot.

Classic!

They do not announce the end of a penalty here in Phoenix.

Fyi... Fleury pounded on the ice once, the other times on the PP the stoppage of play was like seconds before the end of the penalty at it always seemed to be in PP's team zone so their wasn't a chance to pound on the ice by either the goalie or the team.

Haha, I definitely noticed that too after the Devils game. You could tell Hossa was trying to keep his face away from all the guys' gloves in his face.

I thought it was humorous. Kind of like in baseball after someone nails a winning run the team charges out to home plate and will completely jump on top of the guy smacking him hard as hell in the head.
