What is the rules on Crease viloations?

I'd like to know because I thought the rule was the puck must enter the paint before any opposing player can. I guess that rule has been drastically changed or thrown out. Anyone know it's status?

That rule was tossed out in the late eighties. Basically, it now says that you are not to prevent a goalie from making a play on the puck. So, you can't keep him from skating out to the top of the crease or from moving side to side.

That rule was tossed out in 1999 after the Brett Hull no-goal that won the Stanley Cup.

The rule that has been in effect for the last 3 or 4 years is ANYONE can enter the crease and bump the goalie and nothing gets called. On the other hand if your name begins with Tom and ends with strom you can't fart in the direction of the goalie within 4 or 5 feet.

That's about right. <_<

It's pretty much accurate that if you have a reputation for screening the tender, you're much more likely to get called for goaltender interference than if you're just "playing hard and crashing the crease".

I've counted at least twice this season that goals against us that clearly should have been goaltender interference (meaning that Osgood's ability to move in the crease was inhibited), but weren't called, reviewed, etc.

No wonder Tomas Sandstrom retired.

It's actually the little-known Rule 96. It states "Any player wearing #96 and a jersey with red on it is a distraction to the goaltender. Such player(s) will not approach the crease, the goaltender, put his stick or his ass in any area within 20 feet of the goaltender, or throw the goaltender a dirty look that might cause intimidation and fright. A two-minute penalty for obstruction will be assessed in this event."

Nicely done. Sounds a little too true, though. :(
