I've been calling Kopecky useless since we got him. DMac provides what Downey does, but can occasionally score (I know Downey scored for GR, but that's a whole different thing) and knows how to play hockey at least.

I agree, though, I'd love to see Abdelkader, Leino, or Helm in over any of them.

I disagree with Maltby though, he's been doing well for us this season. Draper has been a bit of a disappointment.

Slash Kopecky and DMAC, bring up Abdelkader and Leino/Helm. Slash Lebda and bring up Ericcson.

You're totally off base on every count.

Dmac does NOT provide what Downey does, sir. Downey is a top 20 enforcer still in the NHL. McCarty is a middleweight these days at best.

Leino and Helm aren't the magical answer... If Datsyuk / Zetterberg can't get scoring room and are getting obliterated by Chara like men, then you think Leino will? Right.

Wake up... This team is 1 dimensional this year and until we toughen up, we're in trouble.

See I'm thinking as far back as 96- on, but you do remember we had Drake and Downey; who both would make you pay and made our team play more aggressive. It isn't much but it sure is better then DMac. I also agree I didn't just mean fighting, I meant checking and aggressive play. Abby would be fine, Helm does a great job when he's up, I would like to see Leino. We really should try to get rid of some of this dead weight; Lebda, Maltby, Draper, Kopecky. Sorry but none of them bring enough to justify them being up over those 2.

No I completely agree. I was thinking the other day that this organizations loyalty has finally come back to bite them in the ass. In fact, our problems have began to parallel our issues previous to 06-07, and thats that we've become complacent. We have no motivators. Theres a reason Helm, a rookie, comes into our lineup and looks like he should be getting 20 minutes a game. He has the jump. And if he were twice as skilled, his jump would translate into offensive production.

We need energy, and we need that energy to bring a variant of skill. At this point, I could care less who is traded, but theres no reason the Wings can't actively try and trade some of the dead weight to get some energy on this team.

I'd rather have a real tough guy who may not get any points as a opposed to washed up one that may end up with 5 points by the end of the season; personal opinion though. Malts I do respect how he has played this season but there is better in the minors then him or Draper; maybe even for a game or 2. Scratchs: Dmac/Maltby/Draper/Lebda inject: Downey/Helm/Abby/Big E. Heck even scratch Cleary put in Leino.

It would never in this world happen but I bet you'd see some heart from the youngins, plus when the vets get back maybe they would play with some fire.

The Wings are being exposed for being an undersized overskilled finesse team. The defense is getting eaten alive by power forwards this season. Datsyuk is getting absolutely burried in large defenses.

What are you talking about? The defense is the problem, and they've got Kronwall, Stuart, and Lilja who are all physical and tough, its just a matter of them playing like it, which is a more general probelm - no one. is playing. up to. their potential. That includes energy, toughness, scoring, goaltending, skill, etc.

Please, dont hang the team for this loss. We came off a hard back to back game with a travel in between meeting a team boosted with confidence from an easy victory at home ice the night before and still in the zone.

Actually, I think Boston can be a serious challenger from the east this year, so loosing to them isn't that bad as some here thinks.

Enforcers aren't worth a damn if they can't play hockey.

Leino and Helm wouldn't be up here for offensive purposes only, as you suggest. The players they would replace are useless in almost every category. They would be brought up to bring SOMETHING to the table.

I dont even inderstand..last season I watched every game and no matter who we were playing I had full confidence that we could beat them.. Now, this season, since we were supposed to be even better.. still the best defence in the league and we added Hossa.. and yet thus far into the season instead of being confident that the wings can find a way to win the game I end up thinking "what are they gonna do to throw this one away?".. I cant even stand it anymore.. watching us out shoot every team and be in control then the other team walks down the ice and scores.. but oh well.. I guess we still have 60 games to figure it out..

Agreed, it seems every time the team is in our zone I'm scared.

Oh, geeze. You must really be new here. How many times have we heard this?

Anyway, bunch of bad breaks, a few dumb mistakes and some semi-weak goaltending did in the team tonight. That it was a back-to-back game after travel certainly didn't help either. The team did well to start out, but it wasn't enough.

If there was just SOMETHING that worked, so I could be a little hopeful..

Well, hmm, let's see... the team you supposedly root for is one of the best teams in the league, and it is certainly the most talented team in the league. How about you stop being a spoiled child?

If you'd like to get some perspective, make the Maple Leafs your team for a week. You'll find a new definition of "hope" forming, and then you might appreciate the team a bit.

Mindfly: You've managed to make yourself the first-ever person on my ignore list. Bravo. I won't hesitate to call you the kind of "fan" that every team wishes it didn't have any of. Lighten up and you might enjoy watching hockey a bit more.

Ugh, great game for me to go to. :(

I had high hopes for the game but the Wings just played flat out terrible! They came out hot but Conklin wasn't haing a great night and we could get anything past Fernandez. Granted we hit a couple posts, but definitely not enough GOOD opportunities...

Really need to pull it together against quality teams.

i gotta say, this was a through and through slaughter tonight. constantly pushed off the puck, all kinds of passes picked, and the worst showing of physicality ive seen all year from us. i saw so many chances for checks that werent finished, it ******* blows my mind how they manage to dodge so many hits. for the first time i gotta ask, what the f*** is wrong?

it could just be that boston is sick, but i just think its that we sucked. (notice i said sucked, not suck). travel is no excuse!! if it wasnt for that 4th goal i think they possibly could of been sparked but that just killed it. boston was also good at clogging the hell out of our offensive zone. that was a tough one to watch !! seems like they didnt start playing till they scored that goal.

that said, the post was not our friend tonight, and i definitely saw some missed calls, but nothing that couldve changed the course of the game. time to focus on anaheim, should be a better game.

did anyone hear mick or ken blame the schedule??

Will you get your nose out of Holland's behind and stop making fun of every poster who happens to be mad at the Wings latest performance.

People have a right to be angry with some of the play this year, and they want to see their team repeat as champs. The last few Cup champions also had many flaws through the season, and never could turn it around. If fans want to complain, then that's their right.

Good thing you're not the mod around here, or else the discussion threads would be full of ass kissing and overly positive comments, with all negative posters being banned every day. Nobody would even bother arguing about anything.

Good post. A lot of posters around here seem to know more about hockey than Ken Holland or the entire Red Wings team themselves not to mention they are professional posters and seem to know how we should all post on this site. You post something without doing a search and they jump all over you. You make a post complaining about a Wings game and they jump all over you. People do have a right to be angry and they do have a right to post their anger on here if they want. Where does someone get off telling another poster that their comments are wrong or stupid? I don't get it. As far as tonights game. The Wings lose again to a top team.

Kind of disappointing that we lost to two orig six teams in a span of 4 days. However, the Wings are still 8-2-2 in the month of November, and given the choice, I'd take that for each month for the rest of the season....

Definitely some things the team needs to work on. Some of the comments on here crack me up - ever been through a 82 game season before? ;)

k some of you might even rag on me after i say this but im gonna say it.... i like rafalski but as of late he has not played a proper defensive game is it time babs benchs him for a game or two? i know its not gonna happen cause hes a high paid 3 time cup champion and hes paired with nick... but it would send a very strong msg to him... and almost garunteed we'd see him play alot better after being benched... until then bring up BIG E.... and give him a chance ... agree with me or not but it might be a good thing to do

Good job by the Bruins tonight but holy crap I wish I knew what was wrong with the Wings defense.

We gave up only 19 shots. The problem tonight was the poor play by Conklin. Take away 2 of the 3 goals that he let in and it's a different game. Even he said that 2 of the 3 should not have gone in.

Our team defense was actually very good tonight.

The team defense kept them to 19 shots or whatever because of average play. But it was clear that whenever the other team at a shot, our defense fell apart. THey need to hold it together better. If you're only giving up 19 shots, but 17 of those are amazingly good scoring chances, you're just as bad as a team giving up 50 shots a game.
