Ozzie out with groin

Update from Wednesday's practice: Wings goalie Chris Osgood did not practice due to a sore groin, coach Mike Babcock said. Babcock wasn't sure about the extent of the injury, but it appears he might not even be able to serve as Ty Conklin's back-up for Thursday's game against San Jose.

Still waiting to hear what roster moves the team will make, whether it will be Jimmy Howard or Daniel Larsson recalled from Grand Rapids and whether they will waive a player to make room.

"Tightness in his groin. Everytime it's with a goalie, it's a concern,'' Babcock said. "It was my plan, Ozzie hadn't played in a bit, and we were going to run with him for a while. That has to change.''

Here's the line combinations they practiced with:

Holmstrom-Datsyuk-Hossa

Franzen-Zetterberg-Samuelsson

Hudler-Filppula-Cleary

Kopecky-Draper-Maltby

Defense:

Lidstrom-Rafalski

Kronwall-Stuart

Lilja-Lebda

Meech-Chelios

Babcock said that's not necessarily how he'll use them in the game, as he's contemplating using Franzen at center to match-up with Joe Thornton. It appears Chelios and Meech will be scratched again, but Babcock didn't want to reveal his lineup on defense.

sorry ozzie, but this might be a blessing in disguise... put in Conklin and call up Howard...

Bad disguise, looks like an obvious blessing. Sorry Wizard, get better soon.

As someone stated above, this is a blessing in disguise.

This should force the Team to clean up their act, Defensively speaking, and start playing a simplified, smarter Game. Especially with the Sharks in town tomorrow night.

I've more hope for this game, with this latest development.

They should, (hopefully), be back to being the Wings we all know and love by the time Oz is ready to play again, so all that will remain is for Ozzie to remove HIS head from HIS rear and get back to playing the way HE is capable of playing.

Get better Oz, I wonder if we're going to have room for a goaltender, and who needs to move where.

As far as the lines, keeping Chelios out against the Sharks is a mistake, we need size on the backend against them. Lebda is just to small to defend them, the last couple games he's getting beat out of the corner alot. Interesting Babcock mixed up the forward lines again, wonder if there gonna work.

I'm actually happy about this. You can't blame everything on Ozzy's s***ty play but I think that some of the sieve goals have changed the Wings.

I would love to see one of the kids come up and tear up the league while the team rally's behind their inexperience.

I still don't get it - what is the obsession with minor leaguers?

Do you really think that some "fighters" ( Mac tussled but it did not change anything) or some role 4th liners from GR can change anything?

GR goalies are here as backups, Conclin starts. Calm down.

If Oz is out for anthing more than 3-4 games I think it's a given that the GR goalie, whoever that may be, will start a game. I'd like to see Larsson, simply because I've seen Howard. More than once, for better or worse, doesn't really matter to me at this point.

As for Ozzie.. rest up, heal up right. Hell even get some work in at GR when you get back and take it seriously this time. Just be ready to stop some shots like everyone knows you can come April.

General manager Ken Holland said they have two options: If they determine Thursday that Osgood's injury isn't that serious, he'll continue backing up Conklin until he's fully healed. If it appears Osgood's injury is more than just a day-to-day thing -- Holland said most groin injuries take at least three weeks to heal -- they'll place him on long-term injured reserve, meaning he'll sit out at least 10 games or 24 days.

Interesting...

Indeed. If that's the case the we will probably be seeing one of Howard or Larsson start a game.

Get well soon Oz.
