Parking?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Usually when I go to Wings games I ride down with a buddy who won't be going along this time so I'm taking my brother down instead. I have never driven down to the Joe so I'm wondering, where is the best bet for parking as far as cost vs. distance to the arena? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I am not at all familiar with Detroit so I have always parked in the lot right across the street I believe its the riverfront lot, or in the parking garage right next to the lot. The lot was $20 I believe to park in but was much faster to get out of maybe 15-20 minutes. Last time I went I parked in the parking garage because there was a good chance of snow and I didn't want to clear the car off and it took us about an hour to get out of the garage I believe it was $15. I live about 3 hours away and don't know much about the Detroit area so I always have parked here becuase I knew how to get there. I also have hear you can park at Cheli's Chili and take a free shuttle to the game I am not sure what parking costs.

If you don't mind a short walk and not getting ripped off for parking. Head on to Jefferson street and park near the Post Office (either side of the road, there will be many other people doing the same thing), and double back on foot past Riverfront condos and parking garage to the Joe. Easy and free, plus even with the walk I always beat the traffic. Paying to park is for suckers!

One Wings game that I went to, parked at JLA garage. Great cause it is right by the arena obviously, but there are lack of entries/exits. Went to a playoff game last year and parked in a parking lot behind Greektown restaurants for a respectable $10, wasn't too bad compared to $15 at the JLA garage. I'd suggest parking around Greetown/Greektown garage and taking the People Mover.

We usually either park on Cobo Roof or like others said, park at the Greektown Casino and take the people mover - it drops you off right at JLA. I think the casino players club desk will even give you the people mover tokes (but they are only .50 anyways!) and I think the PM picks up every 10 mins or so.

Greektown is a lot of fun before and after the games :) There will be plenty of Wings fans at Greektown to give you directions. We'll be there on the 10th for the Buffalo game!

I do this exact same thing. Never had a problem. The walk is about 10 mins at most. Easy out, you don't have to wait in a parking garage to get out. Just get there early, because the free spots go quick.

We wound up doing that for the Wings/Sharks game. It isn't bad if the street and sidewalks are clean but try to negotiate that path on snow covered streets and sidewalks when one of you is in a wheel chair. Not easy. For the Wings/Kings game we parked in a lot near Renaissance Center and took the People Mover. It cost us $6 and hardly anyone was parked there. We will probably do that again Thursday night for the Wings/Stars game.
