If you work for the Red Wings, I want your advice!

I'm searching for someone who works for the Detroit Red Wings (preferably sales/marketing depts.). I'm doing some research about pursuing a career with them and would love to spend a few minutes talking to someone on the inside. Thanks so much for stopping by, take care!

Drew, these things only happen for people who make the effort. I would try to find the right contacts (managers or administrators, personnel...) call and write a nice letter. The idea in this kind of thing is that although you want a job NEVER NEVER ask for it. When you ask "Can I have a job?" the choices are limited to a Yes or No answer with No being the most likely then you have nothing more to talk about. Instead, find people you can keep in touch with, ask about their experiences, their background, their work... By establishing these kind of relationships your chances of one of them contacting you when something opens up is much higher.

P.S. Though it may be a great organization at least one of the Ilitch kids is a real punk and exactly what you would expect from a rich brat.

I don't work for the Red Wings, but I do work for my dream-employer doing my dream job. Here's some free advice, Andrew.

If you want an in-demmand job, make yourself the best candidate in the world for that job, and be prepared to prove with measureable facts that you are the best candidate in the world for that job. Work harder than anyone you know. Note the performance of the best person you know in your industry, and do better than them. You won't need insider friends, you won't need to bring your boss coffee or suck anyone's ass if you are the best at what you do and everyone knows it. Make yourself so good at what you do that an employer would be crazy to think they could opperate as effectively without you. I have never met Mike Illich, but I'd guess that he is more interested in savy and performance in his employees than he is about their enthusiasm for Red Wings hockey (though that certainly couldn't hurt, he has easy access to thousands of rabid fans in the JLA at every home game. Uniquely skilled emplyees are far more in-demmand than rabid fans are)

Submit a resume and follow up on it. If you're really awesome, they will hire you - they can't aford not to.

I checked your profile, and you are blank, so what I'm about to say may be quite off base.

If you have sales/marketing experience, then go ahead and submit a resume. If you're still in school, check with your school to see about internships. If you can get one, it gives you an idea about how the organization is run and what they expect from people. It's a really good way to get your foot in the door.

Other than that, do what Micah said. He's spot on.

Jo on a tour of JLA. They are every Wed and Fri at 10 and 2 on non event days. Someone from the Marketing field will be giving you the tour. It is a personal tour so you can ask him/her all the questions you wish. On top of that it's only $6 and the tour is pretty fricken' sweet.

im nearly 23 and havent played competitively in like 4 years but i still put in countless hours on my outdoor neighbourhood rink and im hoping ill get scouted. i keep hearing about our legendary scouting staff so im sure theyll send somebody by.

Step one, go to college.

Step two, Don't be an idiot.

Step three, have a major or minor in Sales/Marketing preferably majors.

Step four, sign up for an internship through their website or contact them and convince them why they need to make a position for you.

Step five, once your internship is over and you did a great job, they should offer you a job with them or convince the Griffin's Management to hire you or they WILL send out recommendations to other organizations in need of your help.
