Claude Lemieux called up

I give him 3 games. Chelios is slow and he rides a bike in the sauna. I doubt Lemieux's got the same conditioning.

As much as I hate that guy, according to sports reports I've heard, he is ripped and chiseled.

Ummm, I don't remeber him being a one-dimesnsional cheapshotter, I remember him being a very effective hockey player, a Conn smythe winner, and one of the best clutch players of all time in the post-season.

I also don't get where he gets the "turtle" moniker from. He was a skilled player, jumped by a fighter. He did what any skilled player would have done when taken advantage of by a goon, ducked and covered, hoping for the penalty. Note that when Mac grew a sack and challeged him straight up, Lemiex fought him and embarassed him, hanging in there better than a star player should have been able to against a so-called "tough guy". Mac should have been able to pound him to a pulp straight-up, but he wasn't. Claude was actually pretty tough, and a great player.

Out of the whole Lemieux/Draper/ McCarty incident, none of them came out looking good. Lemieux looked the like the dirty player he was, McCarty looked pretty weak for someone who was supposed to make a living with his fists (and looked pretty cheap as well, not allowing Claude to square-up), and Draper never even bothered to retaliate against the guy who cheapshotted him, breaking his jaw.

Lemieux? A skilled player? He was average at his peak.

ok yes i some what agree with you yes in his prime he was a good player but he also was one of the most hated people in the league and when darren mccarty made him turtle lol watch the video it looks like claude is looking at mccarty and even if he wasnt its not hard to see theres a ton of fights going on and that theres one person coming right at you and if you think he was so tough then how come it seems like on every fight he had ther person he was fighting had to make sure to take his visor off for him maybe once in a while i can see that because you just start fighting but once against hatcher he had it on once with mccarty he had it on again so i'll give it to you he was a good player but also the most hated and i'm sorry i cant stand it when someone wont take their visor off if hes that afraid to get his faced pounded then why even fight at all

He was actually pretty good, if you look at his stats, 80, 70pts seasons etc

No denying that Lemieux was a helluva clutch playoff performer. He was also a dirty player at times, pretty hard to deny, despite how clutch and good he was in the playoffs.

The "turtle" thing is pretty obvious, just ducking down taking McCarty's blows in the whole incident. True, nobody really looked all that "great" in that scenario, but what would you have expected Draper to done there. When your face gets smashed like he did at the time, it's gonna hurt pretty damn bad and gonna take some time to get up from.

In response to the comments of Lemieux being able to beat up everybody on our team, this is just a big overreaction to a loss to a "physical" team that really didn't just completely demolish the Wings physically. Sure the Wings got hit but that wasn't the sole/major reason they lost. Can Lemieux drop the gloves and beat up people still? Probably so. But let's get serious here, he's a grizzled veteran, I don't think he's going to get that many minutes to be physical or beat people up. He's not the Lemieux of old (or young).

Commas and periods are your friend. Use them. I think i agree with you though, its hard to tell. Claude had to know McCarty was coming after him.

I dunno how McCarty looked cheap, find me anyone who thinks he was being cheap that night besides Avs fans.

Average? Are you serious? He is in the top 10 in playoff goals, won a Conn SMythe and was part of 4 Cup teams. Some of that certainly comes from being lucky enough to be on great teams, but certainly a part of it also comes from making the teams he was on great.

A new Lemieux-McCarty fight, as seen by internet forum posters.

Lemieux cheapshots a player with his walker, drawing the ire of D-Mac, who hobbles over. They draw their canes, salute, and cross them, then proceed to repeatedly whack eachother over the heads while hanging onto the bench with their other hands for balance. D-Mac then hits Lemieux's hip, which gives out, Lemieux feebly falls to the ground, crumpling as D-Mac continues to land barely noticeable Yoda-esque cane strikes. Lemieux's age begins catching up to him, crying "what a world, what a world..!" as he melts into a puddle of goo.

Hi, I'm Micah. I'm not an Aves fan, I am a Red wings fan. I think not squaring up with claude was cheap. Mac had the opportunity to school Claude strait-up, but he decided to jump him instead. I thought it was curious at the time, but the next year we learned why Mac choose to jump him - it was apparently because he wouldn't have soundly beat Lemieux without an unfair advantage.

It's too bad that the toughest player in the game - Brent Severyn - didn't go with McCarty. It's also too bad that the toughest player on either roster - Joey Kocur - was a scratch that night.

ROFL!!!

That's the best thing I've read all day. I'm definitely putting that whole quote in my signature. Hahaha.
