up2here 41 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Just a thought but I wonder if this is legal? Should be interesting to see what the NHLPA has to say.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) That's been the NHL "rule" for quite awhile. If you completely skip All-Star weekend, you either sit out the game before the weekend, or the game after the weekend. Louisville 112 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I am this close to being done with the NHL. I just can't take it anymore people...
DatsMyWings13 4 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 LAME!!! They didn't even make the team as starters so what's the big deal
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 It's just one game and it's against the Blue Jackets. Yeah, it sucks but if there's a precedent then the Wings are the ones in the wrong. The Wings will appeal this though.
up2here 41 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I might also add : What happens if Crosby,Nick or Pav get hurt while playing? Say hello to a large lawsuit.
Heaton 1 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 That's been the NHL "rule" for quite awhile. And what about players who got injured during the game but will be healed within the week?
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Just a thought but I wonder if this is legal? Should be interesting to see what the NHLPA has to say. Conduct detrimental to the league. Done.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I might also add : What happens if Crosby,Nick or Pav get hurt while playing? Say hello to a large lawsuit. They just want them to go to Montreal and take part in off-ice stuff. Meet 'n greets, stuff like that.
Dano33 41 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 LAME!!! They didn't even make the team as starters so what's the big deal Good point, I can see making them go if it was the Fan's decision to send them there, but this is just stupid.
Drimo 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 It's just one game and it's against the Blue Jackets. Yeah, and it is the one of two games this year I am able to attend! for suspension, I will be quite angry if this happens.
up2here 41 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Conduct detrimental to the league. Done. Im not a lawyer but to me that holds about as much water as a sieve. I bet the NHL backs off after the NHLPA lawyers have something to say.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 And what about players who got injured during the game but will be healed within the week? You go to Montreal, you do the autograph signings, you do the sponsor events and you can play on Tuesday or whenever the first game back is.
Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 From now on, instead of stuffing the ballot for your favorite Wings players, make sure to vote in injured or worn down opponents players. Let's make it a Chicago sweep next year shall we?
Opie 308 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 So a player can so "No, I have a planned family trip" and miss it with no problems, but an injury is a problem?????? Correct me if I am wrong but didn't some one last year skip out for family reasons and that is how Ralf got in??
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Luongo missed last year to be with his wife, who was pregnant in Florida. I think he missed some games before or after, so the suspension didn't take hold.
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I try to give Bettman the benefit of the doubt in most situations, but this is just stupid.
Statts 4 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 1 game eh? I would be fine with them telling Bettman to go f*** himself. Or how bout throwing a #5 on Sammy and sending him
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Bettman does make me laugh.
Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Well it is their job to be at a event that they where chosen for (not by the fans) that is very important to their boss... so no big deal just off ice stuff they have to do.
Heaton 1 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Oh and it should be pointed out that I guess they won't be forced to participate in on-ice activities but are being asked to be there for the fans. If that's the case I'm fine with it. edit: MacK already pointed it out.

If that's the case I'm fine with it. edit: MacK already pointed it out. I agree with your point, but Bettman makes me hate him exponentially by the day. As Doug just mentioned on 97.1 too, who knows where Pavel and Nick even are right now with a week off. They may have gone to the motherland to see family and now they have to try and change plans to get back to Montreal.
