Adam Oates (who went undrafted and was signed by Devallano) and Paul MacLean (current assistant coach) were traded from Detroit to St. Louis for Bernie Federko and Tom McKegney in 1989. Within a year Federko had retired and McKegney had been traded away again - one of the worst trades in NHL history.

I barely remember Ron Duguay playing for the Red Wings, but I fondly remember seeing him play in a game against the K-Wings. Man, that guy's hair was awesome.

-edit - Ok, so I had to go and look him up. Jim Cummins! Man, looking over those old 1985-1991 rostors I cannot believe the people that played for us and I forgot about! Torrie Robertson for one! Some guy named Tim Friday, I never even heard of! Classic! The list can go on and on!

Ok here's one that I just recently read about and had no clue he was a Wing at one time.

Dave "Killer" Hanson... Yep, That Dave Hanson of Slap Shot fame, (he was Jack Hanson #16) was a Red Wing and played in 11 games for Detroit amassing 0 goals, 0 assists, for 0 points and 26 Penalty minutes for the 1978-1979 season.

Dave "Killer" Carlson (Carlson was the real last name of the 3 brothers that the characters were based off of) was based off of Dave "Killer" Hanson.

Anyhow, I highly recommend his book Slap Shot Original which you can have personalized if you buy it from his website. The book is an autobiography and It kept me entertained while reading it and I don't know how many times I said, "Hey, that was in the movie!"
