Homer out 3-5 Weeks

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Tomas Holmstrom will have surgery to repair a hernia and will miss the next 3-5 weeks, according to Coach Mike Babcock. Holmstrom has missed the past three games because of the injury, which hampered during last season as well. Holmstrom missed several practices during the playoffs last spring and had to take shots before, during and after games.

Holmstrom said that the timing of the surgery should allow him to play 10 regular-season games before the playoffs. He's expecting to have to wait 2-3 weeks before he can skate again.

The surgery isn't scheduled yet, but the team is trying to get Holmstrom in as soon as possible.

97.1 is reporting that Homer is going to be out 3-5 weeks with sports hernia surgery. Will look for an official link.

Better to get it patched up now than continue grinding away--there'd be nothing left of Homer by the time the playoffs came. We said all along the kids would eventually get their chance to fill in for injuries. Looks like we were right.

Bring up ericsson :)

Once he is back to 100% I hope he is! The only drawback is that he still gets beat wide and we already have enough of that problem with our D... I'd like to see Kindl get a game or two to learn how fast the NHL is, then have Big Rig up for an extended period of time.

Best news from Mlive's Holmstrom Article:

Here's the lines used in practice:

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Cleary

Franzen-Filppula-Hossa

Hudler-Helm-Samuelsson

Leino-Draper-Maltby (Kopecky)

Lidstrom-Kronwall

Lilja-Rafalski

Lebda-Chelios

Conklin (starting vs. Edmonton)

Osgood

Derek Meech (groin) skated before practice and reported improvement but won't play tomorrow.

Babcock said he hadn't decided which forward will be scratched so that Leino can return to the lineup. Based on practice, it could be Kopecky, as he and Leino alternated skating on a line with Draper and Maltby.

Our prayers have been answered! No Kopecky it looks like!

good, I don't want him banged up during the regular season going into the playoffs. Plus whenever homer comesback from injuries he plays with some real fire. This gives us more time to bring up young players. Helm/Leino/Ericson/Kindl/Abby/Howard/Larsson/Ritola,bring them up and keep swapping them out. I'd love to see the young goalies get a read on if we should look for something out there or keep it in house, this really gives us a chance to look at potential trades because of replacements already available in the system. Oh and we can now bring Downey up just in cases s*** bags like jovocop decided to cheap shot Z again.

He'll propably be put on LTIR and this means there will be a bit more cap room for a trade deadline acquisition.

Getzlaf for Sammy and a 4th rounder?

Tell me why Anaheim would do that, Getzlaf is on pace for 90 somethin points this season, and they just resigned him to a five year contract extension. Getzlaf is pretty much the face of that team in the future.

Sucks for the team and Homer, but this isn't all bad. Homer on LTIR frees up that much more salary for a deadline deal, and it means some of the youngins get some more time in the show.

yet i will still miss Holmstrom in the lineup, the team tends to kind of struggle without his in your face presence in front of the net.

As good as a player as Franzen is, he is no Homer!

LOL your joking right? I would question Ducks management if they traded Getzlaf away for Zetterberg/Hossa.

Right, because every player is only allowed one serious injury per season by the hockey gods.

I'm fairly confident that's not what ZP40 meant by that.

While I've heard that type of sentiment echoed here before (and I agree its nonsense), ZP40 was making no such claim.
