mackel 767 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 Hi Folks, Since Kenny has said we're likely just going to try and shore up the D, I've gone off and compiled a list of defencemen from around the league who may fit the bill. My list was made without looking at the cap implications or no trade clauses, its simply a list of players of the variety we're likely to pick up that I'd not mind seeing in a Wings uni. Feel free to add names, discuss reasons as to why any of the players on my list wouldn't be a good fit etc. In No Particular Order: Sean O'Donnell -- LA Denis Gauthier -- LA Mike Commodore -- CBJ Mike Van Ryn -- TOR Jay McKee -- STL Lukas Krajicek -- TB Keith Ballard -- FLA Mathieu Schneider -- ATL
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 Somehow, I doubt Commodore is coming here. For many reasons. All in all, we have too much depth for me to envision Holland signing a defenseman, despite the fact that the defense has been inconsistent all year.

ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 Commodore is an unlikely selection Schneider won't be coming here for a few reasons, 1) we don't need any more offensive depth from our D, 2) we don't have the cap space 3) him and Babs aren't exactly pals. norrisnick 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 We have a dozen NHL capable defensemen under contract. We won't be trading for any more.

miller76 463 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 The only one on that list I like is Ballard, but he makes over 2 million a year. I am wondering how much a team is on the hook for, if it was a deadline transaction.

TheOwl 77 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 need a goalie not a d man A cheap one season rent a goalie would be a good idea. If Ozzy or Conklin completely breaks down, a 3rd guy with experience would be huge. Howard doesn't seem to bring to much confidence.

norrisnick 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 Are the Panthers are a sign and trade kind of team? Not that I'm aware of. They recently (in the last year or so) handed out 7 different 4+ year contracts. Though if Bouwmeester suddenly has a change of heart they may almost be forced to trade Ballard (or McCabe or Allen which would be much harder).
SweWings 45 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 Considering the disarray that Ottawa is in then Kuba might be an ok choice. Though I suppose the price for him might get jacked up.
puckbags 863 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 Sticking with the Swedish theme I hope the Canucks play themselves right out of a playoff spot because I would like to Ohlund in a Wing's uni. Good defensive d man, good pk'er, good first pass out of his own end. He is a UFA at the end of the year but I'm not sure we have the room to sign him. Ohlund would look great in a Wings uni, but like the rest have said- there are too many d-men on the books to justify adding another. Plus we know Ohlund is looking for a huuuugggge payday in July. In a few weeks when Ericsson is healthy he'll be brought up and given a ton of minutes to evaluate his play for the playoffs. It seems like each of the black aces are going to get a call-up for those purposes.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 We don't need a defenseman. We don't need anything really. I have confidence in conklin.
