2/8 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Penguins 0

Well aside from frustrations with finding a decent internet feed and conspiring to miss all 3 goals :ranting: a VERY satisfactory afternoon.

A 3-0 win on the road is always pleasing at the best of times. To do it against a team that somehow considers you a "rival" is better. To shut down their 2 media-appointed-saints-from-heaven is better. To have your top forward doing the shutting down and then banging home 2 goals to boot is better. To do it whilst listening to the unending Crosby circle-jerk is better ( I could hear it through the Russian commentary!). To see Crosby constantly losing his cool and acting like a spoiled little ***** is better. To do it despite the one-eyed reffing is better.

All in all, probably the most satisfying Wings performance of the season. The 1st period against Edmonton yesterday was probly the most dominant, but on the road, back-to-back, against probably the most hated team, and certainly the most hated player on LGW, to see a glimpse of the 07-08 Wings again was a thing of beauty.

Now, we've had several false dawns this season, only to revert back to opening night form, hopefully the last 2 games are the start of Detroit consistantly playing like they should.

Oh, and anyone else think Datsyuk has just leapfrogged Malkin into 2nd place in Hart Trophy voting?

Damn, for some unknown reason I thought this game started at three and on my drive home tuned in to listen to the pregame only to hear the tail end of the third. At least I was able to listen to us score a couple, but still this isn't basketball I actually enjoy following the whole game.

Also, does anyone else think Conks starting two straight on a back to back weekend is a good indicator that he's officially the starting goalie now?

I know Pittsburgh fans tend to think of their team as god knows what but lets get the fact straight:

the only thing they achieved is reaching SCF where they were schooled in first 2 games and then got

pretty lucky to extend the series to 6 games. that's it.

rivalry? puh-lease... let them first reach playoffs this season and then show they're competitive after

2-3 years. I'm not even talking about reaching ECF or SCF beacuse once the league jumps off Crosby

d* and refs stop giving them free-go they'll colapse under own overconfidence and lack of maturity

(which basically already started).

Wings rivals? let Sharks win a single playoff series with us and stay around top of the west conference.

other than them... there's no team to have rivalry with Wings as of now. which is not to say no team

can win it from us. but there's long way to go for almost all of them to be called rivals

Great game boys, glad to see the shutout by Conks. Always a pleasure to watch you stick it to the goldenboy on national TV. As the world probably knows by now the Wings didn't win, the Crosby lost.

I've watched 12 or so Pitt games this year and I'm convinced they will never win with Fleury. I've never seen nor can I remember a goalie that gives up rebounds like he does. It's like there is a trampoline in goal. If I were playing defense for Pitt I'd lose my mind. That 2nd goal by Dats was inexcusable, great athleticism to knock the rebound in but that goal was on Fleury.

I've never been an Ozzie hater but months ago I felt Conklin was playing much better on the whole, hard to argue with 6shutouts. When we play D the way we can I feel ok with whoever is in there.

...funny that the Pensfans are all saying "not a big deal, it's only regular season." Yet WAAAAAAAAY back in Novemeber when they came back to win in OT, the fans were already talking Stanley Cup Parade...

...I thought the Avsfans were bad...

...didn't watch one bit of it, damn sewage back up! Anyhow, does ANYONE know where I can catch it, even after it is over? Someone, somewhere has it, I just know it! TIA

Disappointed I had to miss this game but it's awesome that we got the win. Way to stick it to your old team, Hossa and Conklin.

I keep hearing about how the Wings always turn it on in the last 30 games of the season....so far, so good.

If you have the NHL Network, it is on tomorrow at 2PM.

Hey guys I just got back from the game and what a great one it was! This was the first time I've been able to see the Wings live since I live in Pittsburgh and boy was it sweet after catching s*** from Pens fans all season!! Anyway I figured a first post for a first game would make a pretty good follow up. GO WINGS!!!

It's funny, if you go to letsgopens.com they complain most of their gameday thread about the Wings getting favorable calls and they cry about how the broadcasters drool over the Wings. How can they be that blind? I missed a portion of the first period and the SECOND I turned the TV on, they had a close up of Crosby. I get so tired of seeing him, especially considering he probably isn't even the best player on that team.

As of Sunday, February 8, 2009, the Pittsburgh Penguins are:

A) One step further away from a playoff spot and

B) One step closer to firing Michel Therrien.

I think if the Pens were to fire their coach Mike Terrion (copyright Ed Olczyk) and replaced him with an NHL coach, they might end up back in the thick of things before the end of the season. Having the top two scorers in the league and missing the playoffs is inexcusable and it can't have happened before.

I guess they missed the second intermission where they had a presentation on Sidney Crosby.

Quotes from the announcers:

"He is called the second best player in the league, but I think in everyone's hearts, they know he is the best player in the league."

"There's no one really above Crosby, so he has no one to learn from."

I almost died laughing.

How would Pittsburgh ever of even signed Hossa? Crosby at 8.7, Malkin 8.7, Hossa 7.4?, and Fleury at 5, Gonchar at 5. Not to mention Staal, who they wouldn't of let go at 4, and the host of other secondary guys making around 3 million. They could've never afforded him, unless they traded away all their D guys.

Pittsburgh right now is right up against the cap, with Malkin's salary going up 5 million, and Staal's going up 2 million. They basically need to strip away 7 million worth of cap space. How do they expect to sign Sykora, Fedetanko, and Satan?

The Penguins are in a world of cap trouble. Their history is starting to look a lot like Ottawa's. They make it to the cup final, next season they barely make the play-offs, and next season their going to be screwed. Too much focus on expensive forwards, not enough on D. Penguins are going to be a laughing stock for the foreseeable future.

Um for real? Chicago. They may not be a powerhouse.....Yet but it's an original 6 team and for the most part, when they play us, the standings dont matter. It is still a rivalry. Not llike the colorodo/detroit rivalry a few years back but it's still a rivalry that will probably never die.

We watched this game from a motel room in Chicago. We were here because of a memorial service for my brother. Most importantly, the service went very well and the church was jammed with people who loved him. It's been a real rough week for our family, but you know what? MY WINGS WON SOOOO WELL YESTERDAY AND TODAY and I am so grateful to them for literally helping me through this weekend. I know that probably means my priorities are really misguided but honestly, I don't care.

I am so damn grateful to be a Red Wings' fan. They are the class act of the athletic world and even though they'll never know it they added hugely to my well-being this weekend by their drive, their heart and their skill.

THANKS, my beloved Red Wings.

So sorry for the loss of your brother, Vladifan. I am sure the Wings would be very pleased to know that they helped you cope, in some small way. They do have big hearts and they DO represent the best of the best in hockey and all professional sports, IMO.

Believe it or not, I've gotten through some rough patches myself, with hockey players I loved coming up big for me, seemingly like they "knew" I needed it. It's not misguided to look for positives and feel good about seeing the guys you admire do well for you.

All the best to you and your family, and much sympathy for your loss.

:yowza: Thats why he got schooled in the SCF from Zata! If I had to pick a player to build my team around and my only two choices where Zata and Cindy, I would take Zata hands down. he may not put up the points Cindy does but.......He is a comeplete player(offense/defense)

( Ovie is twice the player Cindy is. He hits, fights and scores badass goals. Ovie or Z should be the face of the NHL not that punk ass!)

BTW guys I really am not new to LGW. My old user name was Datsyuk4life. But havent had internet for a while. Feels good to be back
