We watched this game from a motel room in Chicago. We were here because of a memorial service for my brother. Most importantly, the service went very well and the church was jammed with people who loved him. It's been a real rough week for our family, but you know what? MY WINGS WON SOOOO WELL YESTERDAY AND TODAY and I am so grateful to them for literally helping me through this weekend. I know that probably means my priorities are really misguided but honestly, I don't care.

I am so damn grateful to be a Red Wings' fan. They are the class act of the athletic world and even though they'll never know it they added hugely to my well-being this weekend by their drive, their heart and their skill.

THANKS, my beloved Red Wings.

Sorry to hear about your brother and prayers are with your family/friends. Glad the boys in red/white were able to help.

Hey you wont hear me saying your priorities are messed up, what ever it takes for you to cope with things! Im just glad that you were able to watch good hockey played by the Wings! I also would like to pass on my condolences and hope you and yours are getting by ok...

Don't know if it was talked about but did anyone else catch the closeup in the 3rd of Crosby right after him and Sammy got tangled up again, and Cindy mouthed ..."*****" in Sammys direction? I laughed pretty hard at that, figuring that was the pot calling the kettle black there...

Vladfan, my heart goes out to you for your loss. It is never an easy thing to deal with, but you have a lot of family there with you to help, and your online brothers and sisters as well. Hang in there, kid...it's never easy, but love and faith do help.

:yowza:

I think that I can hear Bettman's screams of ecstasy all the way from here! :hehe:

Is that what that is? Here I thought the neighbours were castrating their chihuahua.

You know, guys, lost amongst the Crosby love-fest, they really did have a lot of nice things to say about the Wings organization. They didn't rave about our players (which they should have), but they did say some very nice things about the Illitches and how players really want to play for Detroit.

Lost in all this consternation about Crosby and perceived media slights is the fact that the Wings played a damn good hockey game and won. I can't be the only one that tunes out announcers and uses their drone simply to prevent the game from becoming an uncomfortable silence, as opposed to listening intently to make mental notes for every time the other teams' stars are mentioned. If you've heard the tired cliches and boring anecdotes once, you've heard them a thousand times.

That's what Crosby's whining voice reminds me of!

Note to Sid the Wonder Slug. The same advice we gave Brian Burke in Vancouver.

SHUT UP.

LOSE.

GO HOME.

I guess they missed the second intermission where they had a presentation on Sidney Crosby.

Quotes from the announcers:

"He is called the second best player in the league, but I think in everyone's hearts, they know he is the best player in the league."

"There's no one really above Crosby, so he has no one to learn from."

I almost died laughing.

Wasn't Crosby held without a shot this game?

1 shot, 2 PIM, -1.

Glad to hear the Wings could give you a hand, Vladifan. Take comfort where you can get it, and never be ashamed where it comes from.

Hmmm. NBC reported he had no shots as of 5 minutes left in the 3rd period. Either their statisticians were incorrect or he ended up getting that shot within the last 5 minutes of play.

Which is what I think happened. I believe it was a pretty poor shot too.

Soooooo....I spent some time on the LetsGoPens board and checked out (GDT: Red Wings (Hossa) v. Penguins). I wanted to read their views on how the game went against us today...and I can't get rid of this cheezy ass grin I have going on. I wanted to see how they built themselves up and I couldn't wait to get to the part where Hossa scored, and Conks blanked them out. They do miss both of them dearly. They also made Whitney (Whiffney, as they mentioned so eloquently) their whipping boy. They couldn't wait for him to return from his injury and now they want his head. I had to add this...it's sad in so many ways, but it kinda explains the cheezy grin.

"When Detroit signs him (Hossa) long term, this board will fall apart."

and at least a Penguin fan did state this:

"Dude I know the Pens offense is fun to watch but already three pens games on NBC? I'm starting to think that the hockey world has TOO big a boner for Crosby. He's a great player no doubt, but it's a little over the top. As a Pens fan I love it but if I wasn't I'd want a turn to see the Iginla's and Parise's and the others every once in a while."

If someone already posted this sooner, I apologize for the reprint.

I agree! Cheers!

It was sort of unreal reading their posts for the most part. Over all, they truly acknowledged the Wings as a better team, and completely tore apart each other and their star players (i.e. Fire Therrien, trade Staal, Whitney, etc.)

I never understood, or encourage anyone ripping apart players wearing the winged wheel because it is a TEAM sport. I think that's what makes the Wings special, they go through adversity but apply themselves that much more. Go Wings!

I am not underestimating right now. I know they were a solid team last year but last year is last year and this year is this year.

As we see, the playoff time is coming soon and even though Gonchar is back on the Pens, by the long injury, I don't think he will be able to perform well as last season.

What I am saying is Gonchar backs, but if the Penguins offenses cannot provide any defensive plays this season, they will not go far in the playoff or even head to the golf course on April 4th.

That's absolutely not what you said, otherwise I wouldn't have questioned you. Here's you initial statement:

Penguins really do suck. Why did they make the playoff last 2 seasons? Because East is terrible, just bunch of joking teams.

Quite a bit different than your bolded comment.

I'm sorry, but wasn't Hossa with the Pens for like 4 months? He's been a Wing longer than he was a Penguin. And how is he a "sellout" if he came to Detroit for less money? And if he's a traitor now, then what does that make him when he came to Pittsburgh?

Pens fans sound like crazy stalker ex girlfriends.

According to the "Full Play-by-play" sheet of the game summaries at nhl dot com:

"Line 253 3 EV 16:05 - 3:55 SHOT - PIT ONGOAL - #87 Crosby, Wrap-around. Off. Zone, 7 ft."

If anybody has the video of the game available, you can use this to check it out. At any rate, the NHL, Reebok and Crosby (sorry, I forgot Tim Hortons) should be very proud of him. He really earned his salary yesterday.

Are all people in s***sburgh, I mean Pittsburgh so stupid?

Hossa played there for barely a few months, and now they're calling him a traitor and comparing him to Benedict Arnold? It's not like he's even close to Fedorov who spent 13 years in Detroit before he bolted. I'm definitely not going to act taht way when Hossa leaves Detroit, because I honestly expect him to be gone after the season.

You'd think their fans would know better last season when they made that gamble for him, that he'd likely be gone.

The above posts make me happy that I don't live anywhere near, nor do I have any reason ever to go to, Pittsburgh. There is something quite wrong about all of that hatred for a guy who apparently never wanted to be there in the first place.

Hossa's ours, deal with it. <_<
