seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 It's not only with mobility. He's totally underrated by Howe. Well, yeah, but that was the one that stood out most to me. This was in a Russian paper? Or what?
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Not only is Fedorov underrated in several categories, but Dats is overrated in a couple. The fact that Dats is 3 points higher than Fedorov in MOBILITY makes this rating a total joke.

P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Perhaps the reason why Datsyuk is rated that much higher is that they were rated by two different persons. Yzerman would propably give Fedorov all 9/10's and 10/10's and Howe would give Datsyuk 6/10's and so on.
up2here 41 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 They need to add the "Shagged Anna Kournikova" rating, Sergei wins hands down.

Opie 308 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 At the time in their careers that Dats is at right now, Hands down Feds. In 4-5 years I have a sneaking suspicion that Dats will have been the better all around player. To me it looks like Dats will be this good for quite a few more years. Now if we are talking just post season I don't think Dats will ever catch up.
NomadFromKazoo 42 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Fedorov was better than Dats, no question about that. I like Dats better because he wants to be here. Federov tried to leave at every chance he got and after saying how our last offer was an insult to his manhood left for LESS money. Screw him.

The Secret 304 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Datsyuk has way more heart then Sergei ever did. Datsyuk competes 110% every night, thats not to say he scores points every night but he plays hard everynight. You can not say that about Princess Sergei. No doubt Sergei could play but he took many nights off despite his abilities. I would take a Datsyuk in his prime without question over Sergei in his prime simply due to the fact that what little difference Sergei may have had in skill Datsyuk makes up for 10 fold in his heart for the game and for the team. f*** Fedorov, I was happy we got rid of him and he has licked balls ever since. egroen 384 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) If I assume Datsyuk is at his peak right now (which he might not even be at yet), here is how I would rate their peaks: Fedorov: ----------------------------------------------- 1. Self-devotion.........................8/10 2. Mobility..................................10/10 3. Tactics...................................9/10 4. Puck tackling.........................8/10 5. Aggressiveness.....................8/10 6. PP-PK.....................................10/10 7. Affective tolerance.................10/10 ----------------------------------------------- Total: 62 points. Datsyuk: ------------------------------------------------ 1. Self-devotion.........................9/10 2. Mobility..................................8/10 3. Tactics...................................9/10 4. Puck tackling..........................9/10 5. Aggressiveness......................8/10 6. PP-PK.....................................8/10 7. Affective tolerance.................8/10 ------------------------------------------------ Total: 59 points. I have no idea what "affective tolerance" is, but I used it as "everything else" because at his peak, Fedorov could take over a game like Datsyuk is not able to. I think Datsyuk will have a better career, but Fedorov was just out of this world at his peak. Edited February 13, 2009 by egroen
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Fedorov was better than Dats, no question about that. NO question? Not so sure about that. I'm sort of in the thinking that Fedorov had a higher peak, but Datsyuk will maintain his peak for longer. There's outstanding value in both of those careers, but Datsyuk wins because he actually wants to be here, as someone else said. Dumb question: Why not have Yzerman rate both of them, given that he actually played with both of them? Not to mention the ratings being more fair because they're coming from the same scale. Maybe Mr. Hockey's just a REALLY tough grader. Or something.

Maybe Mr. Hockey's just a REALLY tough grader. Or something. You bring up some very good points. Mr. Hockey was before my time but I know he was a balls out type of player. I bet he was extra hard on rating Fedorov for all the drama and bulls*** he brought with him... thats not what hockey is about especially when you could play as well as Fedorov could. All that talent the Fedorov had was held back by his lack of heart for the game... which Datysuk has in Spades. I was skeptical on Datsyuk early in his career because he was reminding me alot of Fedorov but since Stevie and Shanny passed on the torch he has totally transformed into an incredible all round player. talex 1 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Not really an easy comparrison to make because they have 2 very different playing styles. Federov was a powerhouse speedster, more like Hossa is today, Dats is a dangler and deeker who is a great assist master. I would say Fedorov was faster and had a better/faster shot and Dats is more tricky and a better passer who should shoot more often, both of them are equally dominant in their playing style categories IMHO. Comparring them is almost apples to oranges because of the major difference in playing styles.
egroen 384 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Oh, please... At peak (if Datsyuk has even reached it), there is no question -- Fedorov's 94 season is one of the best ever, and his string of playoff performances is nearly unrivaled. But Fedorov's peak was relatively short-lived and Datsyuk could definitely surpass him as a better player if he keeps it up.
Kira 451 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 I'm sorry, but I'm going to take the minority side here, and choose Pasha over Sergei. Reason - attitude. Sergei always seemed to be something of a drama hog...whereas Pasha prefers not to be. Maybe you like Feds' stats more, but I go more towards the intangibles, and for that reason, I choose Pasha. Barrie 900 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 I'd take Fedorov over Datsyuk, without having to think about it for to long. 3-5 years from now, I maybe thinking differently, but for now, Fedorov.
