Here is the reality- (add 3 zeros-you get the idea)

forwards defensemen Goalies

Pav-6,700 Nick-7,450 Ozzie-1,416

Hank-6,084 Rafalski-6,000 Howard-716

Filppula-3,000 Stuart-3,750

Cleary-2,800 Kronwall-3,000

Homer-2,250 Lilja-1,250

Draper-1,583 Ericsson-900

Maltby-883 Lebda-650

Helm-599 Meech-483

These are all the Wings players under contract and GR guys out of options.

Our cap hit right now is-49,514,00

If the cap stays the same that gives us 7,184,000 to sign 4 forwards. And we are stuck with Howard backing up Ozzie?

Lets say we re-sign Leino for 1,000 and Kopecky for 650 (thats 125,000 raises for each) and call up Abdelkader -850. Add another 2.5 million to our cap to bring us up to-52,014,000.

We would still have 4,684 left. Thats enough to pay Franzen but not Hossa.

So my Question, Do we-

A- roll with above team (no Hossa)?

B- trade Filppula or Kronwall, giving us another 3 million, replace one of those guys for a 500,000 player, NOT resign Franzen and KEEP Hossa?

C- trade Rafalski to keep Hossa and Franzen?

D- None of the above?

I can think of no other way, and remember Stuart has a no trade clause for 2 seasons.

So i was doing all the crunch work for the salary.

Detroit can keep hossa if willing to give up 2 of the following players

Franzen

Samuelson

Hudler

Hossa would also have to take a nice pay cut too at least 6.7 for this all to work. so thats 0.8 million less then this year and he could easly make close to 9 for any other team. This is all going with the salary staying the same due to north american economy problems. The 4 million raise that was talked about last summer isnt going to happen now. All teams can hope for is that they dont lower the salary cap and screw over teams like detroit.

So detroit would be left with

Hossa Dasyuk Hudler

Holmstrom Zetterberg Lieno

Filppula Draper Maltby

Cleary Helm Abdekelder

Lidstrom Rafalski

Kronwall Stuart

Lilja Lebda

Goalies is a toss up.. do they

trade Osgood and go with Conk starter and Howard back

or do they

stay with the wizard and have ty play backs or let howard take that roll

either way they can afford both... to help cap it would help to get rids of the wizard to gain little bit of cap room

thats my idea for next year and the salaries will work

nhlnumbers.com if where i get all salary stuff.

Hudler/Kopecky/Hossa

Leino/Filppula/Samuelsson

Cleary/Draper/Helm

Maltby

Lidstrom/Rafalski

Kronwall/Ericsson

Meech/Lilja

Lebda

Osgood

OR

Holmstrom/Datsyuk/Hossa

Hudler/Zetterberg/Kopecky

Cleary/Leino/Samuelsson

Maltby/Draper/Helm

Cleary/Leino/Samuelsson

Pick whichever roster you would prefer. I take the first one.

Why lol ?

How about 5 New faces, aswell as 6 rookies, two of them in net?? The red wings would never do a weird and unmotivated overhaul like that (especially when they are winning with the current lineup).

Are you high? Any roster that has Howard anywhere on it is one I want far away from.

Kopecky on 2nd line? Are you kidding?

Kopecky has had wonderful chemistry with all three of Hudler, Hossa, and Zetterberg during the times he has played with them. He has the skills to be a scorer and the chemistry with the second liners on my roster.

Trade idea...

D Brad Stuart, D Brett Lebda and C Evan McGrath/Cory Emmerton to Vancouver

C Ryan Kesler, and 2nd and 3rd round pick to Detroit

Detroit also does not re-sign Mikael Samuelsson.

Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Holmstrom

Kopecky/Hudler/Hossa

Leino/Filppula/Cleary

Kesler/Draper/Helm

Maltby

Lidstrom/Rafalski

Kronwall/Ericsson

Kindl/Lilja

Meech

Osgood

Howard

Significant improvement defensively as well as a younger roster.

Why the hell would Vancouver trade Kesler? They're in danger of losing the Sedin twins and he's easily their best young forward. They already have a ton of defensive depth. The Wings are going to be lucky if McGrath or Emmerton turns out to be nearly as good as Kesler.

This trade would make zero sense for Vancouver.

And then Kesler on the 4th line? Sweet.

That really makes zero sense. It's not logical at all. Kopecky on the 2nd line, as a center? Kindl would improve the defense?

Nope, I'm done.

Nope, I'm done.

As far as Kopecky is concerned, his presence has mostly to do with the fact that he has shown good scoring ability when playing with capable linemates, and in the past has shown EXCELLENT chemistry with Hudler, as well as the fact that he is the only reasonable substitute for Franzen capable of playing a similar style; and if placed in the same role with a playmaker like Hudler and a scorer like Hossa, who knows what he could produce. After thinking about Hudler and Kopecky's past together though, I realized Kopecky played the wing and Hudler played the center, so I have made that edit to my original post.

Kesler was placed on the fourth line because a Kesler/Draper/Helm fourth line would be much better than what we have now as far as a shutdown defensive line, which is the primary purpose of such. If you prefer, swap Kesler and Cleary and run Cleary/Draper/Helm on the fourth line while Kesler centers Leino and Filppula. I think Cleary is better off in a scoring role and Kesler is better off in a defensive role personally, but to each his own.

The comment about improving the defense can be viewed this way:

Based on their performances this season defensively:

Kesler>Franzen

Helm>Maltby

Leino=Samuelsson

Ericsson>Stuart

Kindl>Lebda

Hard to argue with that kind of comparison.

Again; Kindl improving the team defensively is an improvement over LEBDA. If you don't want Kindl, I'll drive down to Fraser because I am an improvement defensively over Lebda too.

THAT IS WAY TO MUCH FOR KESLER IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN

These two posts show that my trade idea was a good middle of the road deal. Some posters claim Vancouver wouldn't trade Kesler for that little...others say it's too much for Kesler.

He has the skills to be a crappy stop-gap. That is all.

The roster won't be THAT different. Two or three players gone, maybe one new player, that's about it. Either way it's going to be tough rigging it so this team will work.
