Tomas Kaberle set to waive no-trade clause

New Jersey will make a strong push for him. I think he's the last piece of the puzzle for the devils to reach the cup finals this year. He would provide major help on the power play making the devils that much better.

From TSN :

In his quest to find a deal for defenceman Tomas Kaberle, Brian Burke has found a kindred spirit in another Toronto general manager.

"Right now we are not talking to anyone about Tomas Kaberle," the Maple Leafs GM stated. "It's interesting, I watched JP's (Blue Jays GM Ricciardi) comments about Doc Halladay and I feel the same way. We're going to talk about this every day until the ‘no-trade' goes away. It's the nature of the business I guess."

Burke's busy summer may well be winding down as it appears that the Maple Leafs Czech-born blueliner will remain in Toronto for the time being.

"If I had to handicap this I'd be shocked if he's not a Leaf on opening night," said Burke.

Is this the kiss of death from Burke?

Was the signing of Finger by JFJ his way of giving the finger to MLSE

Finger IMO will be the odd man out as well - unless of course Van Ryn, and a few others go down with injuries.

With today's trade of Ward to the Canes I get the impression that the Bruins will be looking to add Kaberle to their roster.

Finger was signed by Fletcher.

Whoever signed him is an idiot. That might be the worst contract in the NHL right now. I don't think even the Rangers are stupid enough to take f***in Finger and his overpaid contract.

If both of those players move this summer, which the guys on HTM think is pretty much guaranteed, what will happen to your sig? Will you just have all the names crossed off? :)

I was wondering the same thing lol. Out of all the thousands of sigs on here, I've actually tried to follow MacK_Attack's list and laugh every time one of the "Not-so-Jackson-5" gets moved. It's your time to shine Tito, I mean, Tomas!

The Leafs look REALLY good on defense right now, but I'm talking in their own end. Getting rid of Kaberle would be getting rid of any potential quarterback for your powerplay or even breaking out of the zone correctly. Looking at them, signing Komisarek and Beauchemin were signings, and that's considering I forgot they signed Exelby. I'm going to give Burke props, but Kaberle is needed in the system big time.

P.S... If Lids suddenly leaves, I'd take Kaberle in a heartbeat... I always liked his style and look at him as similar to Lidstrom. Not as GOOD as Lids, but similar style.

It'll be interesting to see who gets traded if it's not Kaberle.

Kaberle - Komisarek

Schenn - Beauchemin

Exelby - Van Ryn

White

That leaves Finger, Stralman & Frogren with no spot. Something has to give.

That's a great d-core man.

He's not worth even close to what he signed for, but he's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Good warrior who sacrifices himself for the team repeatedly. Solid in his own end, but will never do anything that will justify his contract.

From Toronto Star :

The only move in Tomas Kaberle's future will be a flight from his Czech Republic home to Toronto for training camp with the Leafs.

Yesterday was the last day that Toronto general manager Brian Burke could trade the veteran defenceman, but the GM reiterated that Kaberle was "not moving."

Kaberle's no-trade clause kicks back in today, but Burke has always maintained that it would take a sensational offer for him to part with the 31-year-old.

Okay, so who will quarterback the powerplay? Burke signed a handful of nice defensive players, but Kaberle was the key ingredient. Whoever gets this guy will benefit.. I always liked him.

Kaberle. He's not going anywhere, apparently. I guess Ian White or Mike Van Ryn will be traded if they can find a taker for Van Ryn. I would think they'd rather keep White because he can run the 2nd PP unit and doesn't get hurt like Van Ryn.

There's still nine guys competing for seven spots. Frogren can start with the Marlies if they're stuck, but he's ideally the 7th defenceman.

I would have thought Van Ryan would have just left for the KHL, solving the "I need to trade a defenseman" problem, given his history of making a commitment and then jumping ship for another team/league that would better suit him personally.

The OHL was probably a better league for him.
