titanium2 867 Report post Posted March 24, 2009 http://www.faceoff-factor.com/pittsburgh-p...-value-of-depth It sounds ridiculous. Anyone think that perhaps overpaying one or two players so much that no one else will pick up their contracts and having them return for the playoffs when the salary cap isn't in effect theoretically making the team better is a clever way around the cap? rage 24 Report post Posted March 24, 2009 Well, teams would get a chance to claim then I think. Maybe not. I guess I am not sure. Plus, doesn't it work that if a team claims a player (Satan for example) from the Pens off re-entry waivers, then the Pens have to pay half the salary, thus the team claiming him gets him for $2 mill instead of $4 mill for the length of the contract? NFM or somebody probably knows this better than I do. Hopefully somebody will chime in.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted March 24, 2009 The issue is that if you claim a player off of waivers (standard or re-entry) after the trade deadline, that player can't play for your team until next season.

If I were the manager of a team like Atlanta that can afford that player anyway, and would love to stick them in for half the price, I'd do it just to spite the f***ers that are trying to skirt the rules by doing this.
