Did anyone else notice how confident he looked playing today? I counted about three times where he completed deked the socks off players.. It was amazing to see as usually he goes in and does a hard turn to face the boards or get it taken away. Hopefully he continues and turns in to a mini-pavel on second line :D

Prepare to duck and dodge haters. Flip is one of those people who has a cult following.. of bashers, that is.

But two things that's awesome about Flip is his puck pursuit/speed and his puck control. He's always brought the kind of energy to the Wings that they needed.

He's been shooting more and I think that's just what the doctor ordered. The play he made tonight was simply amazing.

He made two plays tonight that were quality scoring chances and I honestly thought they were Datsyuk the way he controlled the puck. I really hope he turns on to be our next Franzen because I havent been impressed with him lately, but tonight I certainly was. He was definitely one of the only positive aspects of the game I watched.

Our next Franzen?? Filppula is nothing like Franzen...I hope you mean that comment in the context of a player who suddenly becomes a reliable scorer. If you want another Franzen-type player, Kopecky is the most likely to turn into that. Filppula is more like Zetterberg than anyone else of our top six, and Hudler is very similar to Datsyuk.

While he doesn't possess the scoring upside of a player like Pavel, he can certainly hold onto a puck and set-up plays when he's on his game.

However, the strike against Val hasn't changed and he'll have to shake it if he plans on being a star in this league: consistency. Once Filppula learns to consistently play like he has over the last few games he'll be worth every penny he's paid.

The problem has never been one of a lack of talent, skill or even dedication. Filppula just needs to learn how to play at his maximum intensity and effort each night and start turning his hot streaks into, at the very least, consistently luke-warm play.

That's the knock against almost all young players- Hudler needs to master it too, but it's roughest for Filppula. Even during the playoffs last year there were stretches where he was one of the worst players on the ice (the entire Nashville series and most of Colorado) and there were stretches where he was one of the best (he was amazing against Pittsburgh, which of course is good since that series mattered the most!).

Once Filppula's got the streakiness thing figured out he should write the solution down and hand it to Zetterberg. :P

Really? Filppula's shooting instinct is s*** (for a top six player that is) and his shot itself is very average... while Zetterberg has great shooting instincts and a great shot. Datsyuk has the more leathal wrister, sure- I can agree with you about the comparison to Hudler there, but what else? I really see Filppula as a poor man's Datsyuk without the scoring instinct and Hudler as the poor man's Zetterberg without the 'size' (whatever size you could say Z has :) ).

At his best, Filppula sometimes plays like a cross between Zetterberg and Datsyuk. When he chases the puck like crazy with that awesome skating ability he looks like Zetterberg and then when he is confident he is able to make those one on one moves like he did tonight and look a little like Pavel (or sometimes on occasion Z).

At his worst, which is mostly when he doesn't skate well, he doesn't look all that different from a Kopy who's still trying to get himself into game shape.

I don't quite understand why people here need to pit Wings against one another. How about Flip is an original player, not like Z or Dats or Franzen, but he's kinda like Flip. He's a compliment to this team in his own way and I'm glad he's on it.

Because it's convienent for comparison's sake? It's not terribly fun to speculate that Filppula might, one day turn out to be a player kinda like a better Filppula.

I like Flip. Always have, always will. And he will get better and score more goals with time. All the haters will crawl back into their holes when this takes place.

He can't be Z or Dats or anyone else, so looks like if he gets better, he's a better Flip. Imagine that. Reality must suck.

No he cant be just like Z or Dats, but a better Flip will be a hella lot like Z. And how can you EVER turn that down for a 2nd/3rd line center!!?? You can't.

Peeps, be patient with Flip. He will be well worth the money soon.

Filp has tons of talent and he can be our good player in the future. I just do not understand how people bitched on Filppula because he had a rough time in the beginning of the season but now he shots more and as a result of that, he is having a good period of the season.

That was KH's concept. He knew Filp would not be impressive because he is still young even though his playoff performance was extremely well done.

hey fellas...i'm drunk, but i just wanted to say that if half of flips post hits tonight would have gone in we would have won. i have been an advocate of him since the beginning... and yes, it didn't work out for him tonight, but neither did it work out for franzen, zetterberg, hossa, or DATSYUK. filppula looked as good as anyone tonight... he's ******* got it. i agree about his need for consistency.

Really? Damn. And here I thought we could scratch a panel to reveal who Filppula is! Thanks for setting me straight! Now go! You have many minds to change- too many people are fooled into making fruitless comparative analysis of a developing athlete's talent using their similarities in play with other established athletes! Little to those poor bastards know that these thought exercises aren't going to affect the final development of the player... Quick! Surely the word "analogous" is a crime against nature! Imagination and discussion are the tools of the devil!

God speed Black-and-White-man!

Trade, 3.5M not worth it, and won't be worth it in a couple of years either... chances are extremely low that he will be "the next finnish superstar"

Thank god he won't be the next Finnish superstar, then we'd have to pay him 6-7 million/year in 2013.

Come on now Drake. You should know by now that thoughts, comparisons, different opinions, fun and humour are not allowed in this discussion board. If what your saying isn't exactly like what Shoreline would say then why say it at all? People aren't allowed to join here to discuss what they want, they come hear to say the same thing as everyone else and to make sure they have their own silly thoughts washed from the brain and replaced by the collective thoughts of the LGW mind.

I'm still resisting the blue pill and I still have silly thoughts that Fullapoolah still plays like a 3 million dollar ringette player and show us his NHL talent far too few times in a season. After all it is his 3rd full season and he should be stabilziing by now. And I do not by the fact the its because he is on the 3rd line. Yes, 3rd line gets less minutes but if a player is ready (see Leino), eager and his skills are sharp he will make the best of every second he is on the ice and right now I'm not happy with Valery yet. He is sitting on some valuable money that could be used to keep or sign some more productive players. ****wait *****something is happening ****valteri is worth every penny and is only playing like a s***tier, less consistent version of a future valteri ****** and Osgoods second goal ****** was the defenses fault . I see it all so rosy red and clearly now. You know what... I think I feel the need to officially change my name to Homer now? Wierd.

Funny how many people are anti fippula. He was pretty damn good last year during the playoffs and I don't remember anyone complaining back then. Hopefully he has a good playoff this year and gets ppl to stfu ;)

3.5M might have been a little high to pay him, but he's still very much improving. Notice when we put him on the line with Franzen and Hossa how much his game changed? He's been playing a defensive roll pretty much all year. It's exciting to see him back offensively.

You guys do realize he didn't score last night right? these threads appear amazingly fast, you could have at least waited until after a game where we didn't get shut out to call people out ;)

Disclaimer: I still like Filppula, although I think he's incredibly soft (Hudler is more physical) and 3.5 million was too much money.
