NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 13, 2009 Welcome to year 3 of the Playoff Picks Game. There are some changes to the format this year so please read below before making your picks. For those of you that aren't familiar with the game, here's how it works: Each round you will pick a winner for each series. For every correct series winner you predict, you will receive 4 points for the first round matchups, 8 for the 2nd, 12 for the 3rd, and 16 for the Finals (0 if you pick the incorrect team, 3 points if you picked a 4-3 series and the other team won). Also to aid with tiebreakers you will also pick how many games the losing team in each series will win. Given that the team you picked to win actually does win the series, you will then have the opportunity to receive up to 3 bonus points. For every game you are off for the losing teams actual win total, I will subtract 1 bonus point. After each round, every player will then pick again based on the teams that made through to the next round. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season, wins Playoff bragging rights. Also, if you pick a series to go to the 7th game, and the team you picked ends up losing, you will receive 3 points rather than 0 this year. Lastly, please pick who you feel will represent each conference in the Stanley Cup Finals as well as the Champoin. This will be worth 3 points per pick if you're correct. If any of your are confused, here's a mock picks example: (1) San Jose 4-1 over (8) Anaheim (2) Detroit 4-2 over (7) Columbus (6) St. Louis 4-3 over (3) Vancouver (4) Chicago 4-3 over (5) Calgary (1) Boston 4-1 over (8) Montreal (2) Washington 4-1 over (7) New York Rangers (3) New Jersey 4-2 over (6) Carolina (5) Philadelphia 4-3 over (4) Pittsburgh WC Champion: Detroit Red Wings EC Champion: New Jersey Devils SC Champion: Detroit Red Wings Let's say this happened in the first round: (1) San Jose won 4-3 over (8) Anaheim (2) Detroit won 4-1 over (7) Columbus (6) St. Louis won 4-3 over (3) Vancouver (5) Calgary won 4-3 over (4) Chicago (1) Boston won 4-0 over (8) Montreal (2) Washington won 4-1 over (7) New York Rangers (6) Carolina won 4-3 over (3) New Jersey (5) Philadelphia won 4-2 over (4) Pittsburgh Here's how my point total would work out: SJS/ANA = 4 Points + 1 Bonus Point DET/CLB = 4 Points + 2 Bonus Points VAN/STL = 4 Points + 3 Bonus Points CHI/CAL = 3 Points BOS/MTL = 4 Points + 2 Bonus Points WSH/NYR = 4 Points + 3 Bonus Points NJD/CAR = 0 Points PHI/PIT = 4 Points + 2 Bonus Points Total first round score: 37 Feel free to post any questions, and remember that your picks must be in *before* the first puck drops Wednesday at 7:00 ET. Here are the Matchups based on their respective ranks: WEST: (1) San Jose Sharks vs. (8) Anaheim Ducks (2) Detroit Red Wings vs. (7) Columbus Blue Jackets (3) Vancouver Canucks vs. (6) St. Louis Blues (4) Chicago Blackhawks vs. (5) Calgary Flames EAST: (1) Boston Bruins vs. (8) Montreal Canadiens (2) Washington Capitals vs. (7) New York Rangers (3) New Jersey Devils vs. (6) Carolina Hurricanes (4) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (5) Philadelphia Flyers If anyone's interested, here is last years suggestion thread: http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.ph...20Game&st=0 NOTE: Please copy and paste the following template when making your picks. Bold the team you're picking to win, and then write the series score directly after in this manner: SJS/ANA 4-2 Round 1 Template: SJS/ANA DET/CLB VAN/STL CHI/CAL BOS/MTL WSH/NYR NJD/CAR PIT/PHI This truly cuts down on the time it requires to tally up scores and I greatly appreciate it. Best of luck to everyone, and I'll post my picks shortly.

But it's going to be scary if you have predicted a series to end 4-3 and it comes down to a 7th deciding game. Big difference between 8 and 0 points.. No bonus points for having 6 out of 7 games in a series predicted "right"? (edited for rule changes.) Edited April 13, 2009 by dat's sick

No bonus points for having 6 out 7 games in a series predicted "right"? That's not a bad idea, and it keeps people from getting screwed by making a bold pick. How does everyone feel about 3 points being awarded in that situation? I'll drum up the old suggestion thread after last years' game. That had some good ideas that we talked about implementing. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 13, 2009 For those of you that have already made your picks, please re-read the rules. I've made a couple changes to incorporate last years suggestions, and I wanted to give everyone that's already made their picks the chance to adjust them if they so choose. Most importantly, please pick who you feel will represent each conference in the Stanley Cup Finals and pick the Champion as well. You can use the same format/template to make the finals prediction (I.E. DET/NJD 4-2)
