Red Wings Round 1 only on TSN?

alright you guys freaked me out so I called directv - they said nothing has changed since last year and games were scheduled until May 15th ALTHOUGH they have not put out the Center Ice PO schedule yet. So there is still the chance TSN games get blocked out but I very much doubt it....

but VS is only set to show ONE game between Mont. and Bos, this is rediculous as this is a historically important matchup and a bitter rivalry going back generations. But then again in the new NHL history doesn't mean anything so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

so if you're in America outside of Michigan and without Center Ice and a Wings fan you're pretty much screwed. You'd think the league would give the defending champs a little more r-e-s-p-e-c-t

I agree... while the hard-core hockey fan might feel more compelled to watch a heated rivalry, that fan is still a minority for the NHL. Fact is, most viewership comes from the respective teams' demographics, and the Red Wings can compete with the canadian teams in demographics, and in continent-dispersed fans, even more so.

yea sorry i meant viewers in canada, im from Toronto

Center Ice advertised they would carry rounds one and two of the POs - like they always have- part of the reason I bought it. Viewers in Canada may be blocked from that if it is on TSN, but I don't see how viewers in the US would be blocked since we do not get TSN anyways. I'm confused - I may try to call and find out but like other posters have said, I never get anyone that knows a damn thing about Center ICe....

This bulls*** is why I resolved never to give the NHL a dime of my TV money. There are online alternatives. And those alternatives include every game of the season archived as well.

Last season i missed the beginning of game 4 vs trashville. The first game on versus, rangers-devils i think, was still on. Now, im not 100% sure, but i thought the game was on FSD/center ice as well as versus, and i couldnt watch it on FSD (was blacked out), since versus held the rights to the game, even though the first game was running a bit late. I had to listen online.

and on a sidenote, since the nhl moved to nbc, we down here the the new orleans area have to miss game 3 or 4 of the stanley cup finals, since they do an all day childrens miracle network on local nbc the first weekend of june. I missed game 4 when we won 2-1. Hockey not being big has alot to do with that, but youd think thier was a way to watch it, somewhere...

go wings!

Luckily I live in Cincinnati and get FSN-Ohio which will most likely show most of the games (seeing as how it's the first time their team has made the playoffs) and I have Center Ice through Time Warner Cable. I'm hoping Center Ice picks up the FSN-Detroit feeds as I hate having to listen to Jeff Rimer. Also, Center Ice always blacks out BJs games because I have FSN-Ohio as well. I hope that doesn't cause any problems.

any bars in the Chicago Area that would actually carry the Wings? I am supposedly going to Chicago for my birthday this weekend.

I emailed my displeasure to the NHL's web site the other day and received this response today:

Thank you for your email. Please be advised the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoff complete schedule for Round 1 will be available on Wednesday, April 15th.

This schedule will include the national telecasters for US and CANADA. The schedule will also show the LOCAL telecasters.

Please check back tomorrow.

Thanks,

NHL TV

So maybe they are still working everything ok? Hopefully this is the case...

Meh, what can ya do?

Do I wish the Wings games were more on Versus and get a sniff/two on NBC to start? Of course. But, first/foremost there is more focus on the Eastern Conference/Coast and of course Pittsburgh/Crosby. Does it bother me that much? Not really, it is what it is, but I'm surprised a defending Cup champion doesn't get a little more pub and love, whether it is Detroit or not.

I'll guarantee you though if the Red Wings were pimped as much as Pittsburgh/Crosby, there'd be no complaining as it is convenient that your favorite team is on national TV the most. In the grand scheme of things, the Wings have gotten their fair share of national broadcasts.

Regardless of all this, fans in here are smart, savvy, and dedicated enough to find means necessary to watch their games, regardless of if it is on national TV or not.

True, but 18 straight years in the playoffs, as well as the best away attendance, coupled with having the best selling American jersey, should mean we get a few games shown, right? Hell, ESPN can't go 4 days without telling me when their 2 week countdown to the next Yanks/BoSox match up.

Of course. But sometimes that's just the breaks. For me I just want the game to be available. Versus, ESPN, TSN, Fox Sports, the Food Network, TNT, CNN, I don't care what it's on, just be available somewhere to watch.

I really hope it is showin on VS. I don't live in Detroit or get TSN or TSN2. I could be screwed the whole series.

Just do what I'll be doing the whole series. Blaming Bettman and his adopted son Crosby for having to miss most of the series. Also, it wouldn't hurt if atdhe was still around and working well. That one is also on Bettman.

Exactly. We've always gotten good coverage in the past. It's like the league all of a sudden decided to cut out the Wings from their schedule. I know Columbus isn't a big market, but neither is Nashville, and yet all our games against them were televised last year.

Also, the other original 6 teams likewise got hosed by this deal. Hardly any of their games are televised on Versus, either.

The Wings aren't going to get favorable treatment every season for TV. Sorry. Get Center Ice if you want to watch every single game.

We have for like the past 10 seasons or so. That seems like consistency to me, which would warrant the expectation that it will happen again, especially coming off a Cup run and a good regular season finish in the standings.

One thing can be expected, though. Namely that the Penguins will get favorable treatment every season on the TV.

Everybody simma down now. Here's how it will almost certainly work:

If you have Center Ice, you will get the feed via either TSN or FSD for sure, no matter who the provider.

If you live in or around Detroit, FSD will black out VS coverage.

If you live outside Detroit, VS will blackout your FSD/Center Ice coverage.

Yeah, it is just down right stupid. There won't be a free internet feed of the games will there?

I know the Red Wings won't get treatment but it would be nice to show at least 1 or 2 games on VS.

What makes matters worse, is that game 1 is on TSN2, correct?

Luckily, I get TSN2 (In one fricken' room!), but a lot of people do not get TSN2... I guess that's one of the only downfalls of playing Columbus is round 1. The possibility of getting Calgary or Vancouver in round 2 will be better.

I wanted to ask an update on this thread. How have the 2 games been split so far on TV. I've noticed a mix so far. Game 1 was on CBC (not sure where else), and then Sunday we got it on NBC. Anyone have the TV sched. for the rest of the round? It seems to be jumping around a bit.
