Break out the Brooms

I want to keep this thread specific to the first round match ups. Which team is most likely to be the first sent home after posting a fat 0 in their playoff win column? Post even if you do not think that there will be a sweep in the first round.

Western Conference

#1 San Jose Sharks vs. #8 Anaheim Ducks

#2 Detroit Red Wings vs. #7 Columbus Blue Jackets

#3 Vancouver Canucks vs. #6 St. Louis Blues

#4 Chicago Blackhawks vs. #5 Calgary Flames

Eastern Conference

#1 Boston Bruins vs. #8 Montreal Canadiens

#2 Washington Capitals vs. #7 New York Rangers

#3 New Jersey Devils vs. #6 Carolina Hurricanes

#4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #5 Philadelphia Flyers

I am going with the Bruins sweeping the Canadiens. The Canadiens are missing top point getters in Lang and Markov, plus Schneider will be playing with a shoulder injury that requires surgery, so his performance will suffer. Basically, the Canadiens will be missing a presence on the blue line during the power play. Also, Price has been shaky at best this season and is capable of losing games on his own.

Rangers

I didn't even see your response, but when scanning down the list of match-ups, once I got to the Rangers, that was my pick.

The Rags don't stand a chance. They don't have the guns to shut down all that offense on Washington, and they don't have the guns to compete.

Definitely not the Rangers. Solid D, amazing PK and Lundqvist will steal atleast a game or two.

My choice is the Habs. They've been dominated by the Bruins during the season series and they have injury trouble and a chaotic season behind them. They just barely made the playoffs because they had the easiest schedule in the league the last 10 games, and I could see them completely collapsing now.

Carolina

See, i think that Carolina is going to take that series. There is just something about Carolina this year. That have that look. Just me though.

I hope it's not Detroit!

If I had to pick one, I would say Montreal. In the west, I say Calgary gets swept! Chicago has owned them this year winning every meeting. But the playoffs are different.

From the predictions topic earlier I picked the Canes. I think the teams I predicted to lose in the other series have the capability to win a game or two. But I'm also boldly thinking that Brodeur and the Devils defense shows up well in the ECQF.

It'll be the Habs I'd say. Next most likely, mmmmmmm, the Ducks. Third, I'd say the Devils.

Edit: Guarantee you the Devils won't sweep. Brodeur gives up too many lousy goals for that to happen. I DO think the Devs will win though (one round anyway).

Carolina

Not so sure, not that it matters much, but they won 9 in a row, were the hottest team in the league before losing their last 2 games of the year (1 of which was to NJ of course). In those 9 wins, 2 were against NJ.

NJ lost 8 of 11 games before winning their last 2 of the year.

Edit: If I really had to pick, I'd guess that there would be no sweeps in the first round.

I'm thinking Montreal in the East and Calgary in the West have the best chance.

Montreal is just begging to be killed off for good, and if the Flames' defense does not get healthy, they are toast.

I think Montreal is the most likely to be swept, but then again I think they will get one on their home ice. Other than that I don't see too many sweeps happening, possibly New Jersey, but with Brodeur I don't think that will happen. In a perfect world I would like to see Chicago get swept and have the damn media there shut up about how great they are and to piss off there fans.

I think there is an outside chance the Sharks could really upset the Ducks, but really don't see a sweep in the West. In the East, maybe the Habs blow their lead in the game they get it, but its gonna be tough to just out right drop a team with their legacy.

I say, there is a bigger chance of St. Louis making it to the second round than predicting sweeps in this one.
