Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 This was a very unclassy move. I understand that throwing things onto the ice is against the rules in any arena (even at the Joe technically). But this does not give anyone the right to start beating the crap out of people who do it. Nationwide Arena has plenty of security guards employed who can escort octopi throwers out of the arena. There is no need for violence.
winfran 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) I am not sure if Columbus will have to worry about octopi on Thursday. If I were them, I would be more worried about people smuggling brooms into the arena and throwing them on the ice. But that's just me! kevotron 3 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 Isnt this the same fanbase that spawned the dips*** who climbed on stage and popped Dimebag Darrell and a bunch of others at that concert a few years back? They are retards. Pure and simple. Maybe a call for retaliation on Columbus fans for all the years of liberties taken on the people of Michigan would be in order...BUT, the Columbus Straightjackets wont be coming back to Detroit. They'll be golfing...er, uh...I mean they'll be cowtipping come Friday so we wont see their chromosonally challenged fans back here to give them a little Detroit Breakdown\Motor City shakedown. OK I know it isnt cool to suggest retaliation of violence, and I am not suggesting anyone pursue such a course. I am just stating how I feel so dont listen to me, I have to take pills to keep myself from having fits of A.D.D induced rage. No violence people! Be nice! Guest micah Report post Posted April 22, 2009 Classy move, tough guy. Pounding on a kid. Your parents must be very proud of you. Did he actually pound on the kid or did he just restrain him and prevent him from throwing a presumably dead animal onto the ice? If it was the latter, I don't think it was such an unreasonable course of action. If the dude was throwing haymakers at the kid's face, obviously that'd be wrong. The thread is gone now, but the guy pictured doing it posted and bragged about "slamming that punk's face into the glass". There were also posters gloating that the Red Wings fan was in pretty bad shape after the game.

Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted April 22, 2009 Classy move, tough guy. Pounding on a kid. Your parents must be very proud of you. 2 Things. That picture is fricken hilarious. Even hockey fans are tough. #2, I actually agree with the poster who said throwing Octo on opposition is disrespectful. Wings fans would say the same thing if catfish were being tossed onto Joe ice. That is an undeniable fact. Personally, I don't mind rubbing it in an opponents face. But just b/c I relish that doesn't make it 'respectful'.
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 I wonder if any civil prosecutors are big enough Wing fans to help out the Wing fan who was attacked pro bono, seems to me he was physically assaulted by non-security personal unfairly and the assailant has a history of stadium altercations judging from his admittance to being in a scuffle at the Joe. Granted a fairer and more appropriate brand of justice would stem from him being ridiculed out of the stadium or knocked out cold for picking on the wrong guy, but even in retaliation crap like that is taking things way to far. JayUp88 1 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 how did this turd not atleast spend the night in jail? People get into fights at games all the time(anyone old enough to remember the silverdome?). Its not a good thing but its still something that happens. You're not going to end up in jail unless things get out of hand. Most of the time this stuff happens in the cheap seats so you don't get all these pictures of it. It sucks that the guy got beat up and it sucks for the jacket fans to have someone throwing stuff on the ice. Its lose lose for each team. If someone were to throw something on the ice at the Joe that supports the other team the same thing would happen, but we would be cheering the guy from Detroit who pushed the guy that throw stuff on the ice. Wombat 26 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 Unfortunately, your opinion on this is irrelevant. I'm not saying that your opinion is worthless though, you make a good point. All teams have disrespectful fans, including the wings, and those idiots would give their freedom just to get an octopus on the ice. Thank you for being the arbiter of opinion relevance. That's what I was trying to get at and perhaps I did not say it as succinctly. We would cheer if a Wings fan defended the Joe from some other team's fan throwing something on the ice. Of course, it is moot as right now it doesn't seem as if any teams have a tradition quite like the Red Wings, but I totally get why other cities don't like having it happen. I LOVE when the octopi fly in the Joe, but not on the road.
Mickey Redmond 15 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 so youre saying a full grown man jumping a kid from behind and plastering his face against the glass is not out of hand?
ndog 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 It's pretty classless for our fans to have done that. We shouldn't take it upon ourselves to be security. It gives the city a black eye. It's even more classless to brag about it on a message board. Believe it or not there are good fans and people in this city and state. Hockeytown_Ryan, if you post on this forum, which I think you do, check your pm. I only moved the topic you posted to another forum so it wasn't on our front page. I don't want to promote that kind of classlessness on my site. As for the UM/OSU rivalry. It's a historic rivalry and there are fan issues on both sides of isle. Both sides have stories about rude/obnoxious/idiotic fans. Good series. You guys are kicking our ass.
Wombat 26 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 so youre saying a full grown man jumping a kid from behind and plastering his face against the glass is not out of hand? If you are referring to me, I said in a previous post in this thread that I think both guys should go to jail at least overnight... the attempted thrower, and the guy that jumped him. Clearly he did not deserve a beat down so I do not condone that one bit.

Wings fans would say the same thing if catfish were being tossed onto Joe ice. That is an undeniable fact. Well, to start off the catfish thing is just stupid. It has no roots and no point. It's just some stupid thing nashville (it was nashville last year, wasn't it? who wanted to "get even") The octopus is a tradition that goes back 53 years, there is a big difference. Now if I was in their position, I wouldn't like it at all. In fact I'd probably hate it, but I wouldn't call it disrespectful and it surely doesn't warrant getting jumped by some drunk *******. I understand that it is against arena rules to throw anything onto the ice, but it is not illegal and does not threaten anybody's safety. Kicked out and banned from the arena maybe...but jail for attempting to throw something, especially when it wasn't even directed toward anyone? Octopus throwing and assault are not on the same level. Drimo 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 I'm a MI transplant living in Cincinnati. One thing I have noticed since I moved here is Cbus has a real hard time admitting they are the third most relevant city/sports market in Ohio. Can't wait to get this series over so I can be done with the CBJ broadcasts. Curse you FSO! I did thoroughly enjoy the tone in Danny Gare's voice last night when he says "Zetterberg scored". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akNb1DtqSLU...player_embedded Oh yeah, I loved the "Zetterberg just scored" while they were raving about the man handling Commodore was doing. And damn FSO changing the channel the game is on just to air the Reds game instead!
